A Journey through Arda  by Larner 95 Review(s)

Thanks for this glimpse of the Valar's reaction to Isildur's fall to the Ring. Hmmmm.... I assume that Ulmo and Aule were able to dim the Ring's abilities when It was in the Anduin and beneath the Misty Mountains. Did the Ring or Sauron suspect that something was muting It's power? Or did Sauron just believe that his recovery was slowed by It's loss after Isildur's attack with Narsil? The Valar must have felt terrible that Sauron and the Ring were able to escape their well earned justice! Many thanks for another addition to Middle Earth! :)

Author Reply: I do suspect that Ulmo and Aule found it necessary to provide damper fields of sorts about the Ring, once It came into their territories. We know that Sauron himself had an affinity for fire, so I truly suspect that having fallen into the Anduin from Isildur's hand the power of the water rushing ever over It did a good deal to assure It was not found betimes by evil creatures, although once It was free from the river It certainly acted swiftly on Deagol and Smeagol.

As for whether Sauron and the Ring Itself realized that outside powers were affecting It--that is a question I may well explore one day!

Just what I need--more Nuzgul haunting my house! Heh!

The unknown elf's thought are very realistic, and he reacts to the threat like anyone would, but at the end he fights. Well done!

Author Reply: Yes, he is frightened, but realizes he must fight and does what is necessary, and so loses a good deal of his fear in the end.

Thanks so for the comments, Mirach!

Fire-elves is a very logical name the Sindar would give to Noldor.

Author Reply: I thought so. The brightness of the eyes of those who'd grown up in the Light of the Trees has often been commented upon in Tolkien's works, so that this Elf at least might have called them so seemed logical.

This is really chilling! I would never imagine that someone of the Noldor would go back to meet Fingolfin. It is a very brave act, and refusal of Feanor's leadership. I hope he survived, and met his family!

Author Reply: I so agree, Mirach. Feanor's growing madness must have disturbed at least some of those who'd originally been moved by him in Tirion.

Thanks so very much, and for your patience in awaiting responses!

Now I wonder if the speel bound just his body, or also his thought... I imagine it rather like a timeless moment for both of them, like when you look deeply into a lover's eyes, and get lost of them, the sprits touching.

Author Reply: It's definitely a question to be pondered, Mirach. That spell was apparently a strong one to bind them both so long and so powerfully!

I love your take on that moment!

what a cool story! Nicely done! Love the joint singing to release those who were trapped and see their spirits safely to Mandos for healing and rebirth.

Author Reply: I'm so glad you enjoyed it, Ellie. And if all who held inherent power sang together, how much more effectively would be the release of the evil of the place, and the release of those whose spirits were still caught in the memories of their final battles! Thanks so much for your patience, also, in awaiting a response!

How lovely! Arwen truly understood her father, and how such a request would not only heal the land and guide the lost souls, but it would also help those who fought in that battle and who lost friends and family because of it. This vignette makes me think of spring and Easter! :)

Author Reply: It must ins ome ways have been difficult for Elrond to wait so long to sail from Middle Earth, as he'd said his goodbyes to Arwen already, yet missives and news would arrive from time to tome, I'm certain. At least what she asks was something he could only feel good about!

I'm glad that it brings Easter to mind, Teresa. A time for preparation for rebirth, at least. Thank you so!

Chuckle.......Pippin would definately make sure that there would be mirth and mischief for Aragorn ----- even if it was by proxy! He'd never allow Strider to be constantly swamped by protocol! Did he continue the pranking lessons with Aragorn's children? I wouldn't be suprised if Sam and Merry didn't add a few suggestions on occasion! Many thanks! :)

Author Reply: Oh, definitely! Can't be allowing one's friend get stodgy, even if he IS the King! And he probably did enlist the children to keep their father on his toes once they were old enough to understand.

I'm certain that Merry would embrace the project once he was assured it helped keep Strider in good fettle, and perhaps Sam might, very quietly, offer a suggestion now and then, as long as no one knew about it....

Heh! Glad it gave you a laugh!

Aww, beautiful.

Author Reply: And thank you so, Ellynn!

Oh Larner that was just beautiful! My eyes are moist and I feel their pain. I always wondered what would happen to them and this was a wonderful way to end it. Thankyou The Imp

Author Reply: I'm so very glad you feel this was a good way to deal with those whose spirits lingered after the Last Alliance, Imp. I've hinted at this visit by Aragorn and Arwen to the battlefield before the site of the Black Gate, and that it helped purify the Dead Marshes; I was glad to write it at last!
