Pearl's Pearls - A New String  by Pearl Took 102 Review(s)

I so love the thought of Bilbo watching the changes made in Beorn's customs and hall. And the gifts are so perfect! Go, Bilbo!

Author Reply: Thank you, Larner :-) Hobbits love gift giving, as we all know. I figured Bilbo wouldn't pass up an opportunity like that one.

No, one cannot run away from oneself, and so Pippin will find.

Joyous to read this again. And Pippin doesn't realize he's met a bit of family history here! Heh!

His own adventure proved a good experience for him--for the most part. I'm glad Mr. Boffin suggested that Pippin's would come when its time was right.

Fun stuff, incorporating both recent and distant Tookish history (though now I have to wonder just why Basso left)!

And I was tickled that I was able to catch just who Pippin's visitor was!

~Celeritas

Author Reply: So glad you enjoyed it, Celeritas :-) Good for you for catching that!

It's lovely to think that the ancestors are still looking after their young family members. There's a lot of wisdom in the old hobbit's words, and Pippin was a wise lad to listen.

Author Reply: Thank you, shirebound :-) I sometimes wish wise old ghosts would appear more often in our world.

What wonderful affirmations of their innate gifts. Looking forward to more like this.

Author Reply: Aw, thank you, harrowcat! I'm glad you enjoyed it :-)

Ah--quite the tradition, for certain of the children of the Took lineage to go forth into the storms and take to themselves the power of the storm--and yet to receive it in particular forms. Love the forms given Esme and Pippin, and love speculating how it might fall to Faramir!

Lovely imagery here.

Author Reply: I thought I had replied already, I'm so sorry Larner.

It is what I always liked to do. There really is something different about that ozone charged air!

Yes, I don't know yet where Faramir's gifts lie.

Thank you so much! :-)

Oh Pearl, how wonderful! The children have no idea that the bang-flash-wand-wielding magic they long for is no greater than love, loyalty, and courage -- the *true* Magic they already possess.

Author Reply: Thank you so much, dear shirebound! Many of us need to learn that those are life's true magic.

Hugs!

Indeed a difficult problem for Merry to face, and Pippin did a wonderful job at explaining as he could. But such a terrible way to get rid of unwanted kittens that the farm can't support.

Author Reply: Thank you, Larner, for reading and commenting :-)

It has always seemed a particularly cruel thing to me. Cats have long been abused animals. I tired to deal with the matter with some tact and grace.

You did a marvelous job with this bunny, Pearl! It's a beautiful story, full of love and wisdom and growth. It's lovely to see Pippin acting as the 'older cousin', and letting us end with purring and full tummies.

Author Reply: Thank you so much, dear mentor. It simply had to end with purring and full tummies :-)

Oh my, I *knew* you'd create an awesome story from my wee bunny! I loved the interactions between Pippin and Merry, and how Pippin was, for once, the one with the knowledge to share. He *was* a grown up lad in the way he handled it, and yet tender-hearted as always, as shown by the burial and the little funeral. Interesting that Merry had a hard time with it, but also logical because unlike his little cousin, he wasn't raised on a farm. So it follows perfectly that Pippin would have more knowledge about the farm cats and other animals. I loved the superstitions you added to the story and the way the ferry hobbit reacted to the kittens. I'm glad Esmeralda didn't believe in it either.

You even wrote dear old Pearl in character. She really *was* a true mama cat and would have taken in those kittens in real life, I'm sure.

Thanks so much, Pearl! Hmmm, and now for my next bunny.......

Author Reply: Thank you so much, Cathleen. Thank you for your bunny. Thank you for your confidence. I'm so glad you liked the end result.

Make it a good one . . .

Hugs,
Pearl
