Of a Father and Son  by sheraiah 26 Review(s)

Am really enjoying this story - and I think your assessment of L's age is the most likely (I've always thought that his tendency to be open to new things and his unfortunate habit of befriending short-lived beings was a result of both his youth (hadn't visited Lothlorien before FOTR), his "sad" childhood (was an efficient despatcher of orcs, so obviously a good warrior, therefore Mirkwood had been "visited" by orcs/spiders/whatever for long enough for this to happen) - I think his mother had died/sailed early on in his life, and that there must have been a positive encounter with Men when he was young (Thranduil found Galadriel a problem, dwarves too (remember Doriath) and so probably had a problem with Men too - bar trade ) so L didn't get this readiness to befriend mortals from his father!), and a destiny handed down to him.) Phew - sorry about that run-on sentence, hope it makes sense to you!

The only thing I found a bit jarring was that the reason given for Estel to not assist in the healing was that his elven blood was too dilute - but we know from FOTR that he used Athelas to aid Frodo and that it (healing) was a gift - and a sign he *was* the rightful King.
This is great stuff (already ready The Conversation and The Aftermath), my favourite fan fiction is set before LOTR, and there isn't enough of it! (at least I haven't found enough )
Cheers and please keep it up - it's great stuff,
Helen

That was so lovely....I've enjoyed this story so much over the last few months, and really am quite sad that the it has come to its end...
Thank you for sharing your writing with us all! I look forward to your future work with much anticipation....

SO it ends, I cannot say at least b/c that means no more, but hopefully you will bring us more of your brilliant Legolas.

Gimli and Legolas' relationship was spot on, their endless banter had me laughing. Yet there was also much sadness as we know how the story ends, but it is a beautiful thing you captured nonetheless, that of friendship and love.
Thanks for sharing your story with us!

Sheraiah, I have to admit, having sat down and read this from start to finish... I am amazed.

I adored the whole of this beautiful story you have; it has truly been a pleasure to read. Can't wait to see more of your works!

Best wishes,
Sheleigh

My guess is Saruman.

Great story, Sheraiah. I followed this at various locations but no matter where you posted, I always enjoyed picking it up again.

Good job. :-)

It was great to get an update but very sad to see it was the last chapter I have so much enjoyed this story.
I love your take on Thranduil and Legolas and their loving father son relationship and the friendship between the two elven realms.
In fact I love all of it and can't imagine how I am going to manage without the hope of a new chapter to look forward to
Have to look out for sequels instead
As for the assassin's boss cold it be Saruman or Denethor? (just hedging my bets there!)

An update-oh thank you, thank you, thank you! I had really forgotten that this was your first LOTR fanfic...Wow! You really did a "bang up" job on your first story. I kind of hate to see it end, but like the hint of sequels to come!

I'm too brain dead today to figure out "who done it". So keep writing for all us loyal fans that love your work!

Well, I have no idea who the enemy is, but I did enjoy this chapter. Legolas, Haldir, Estel and company make for a fearsome sight. No wonder the man was nervous. And Thranduil would just wipe the floor with him. Ah the Elven King!

Saruman would be my guess, though I shan't add a guess as to why he would want to assassinate Thranduil. Of course, it could also be some mysterious Sindarin elf with a grudge, but assassination doesn't really seem an elvish thing to contract. Well, anyway, a terrific story. I'm glad it wasn't forgotten and left unfinished.
