The Great Hobbiton Race of 1435  by Llinos 137 Review(s)

Bwahahaha! Only Pippin could ask a Wood Elf such a question! Dignified vegecide indeed! Tee-hee! Still I'm glad the new pub wasn't made of anyone they knew!

I loved sensible Sam, after that long-winded name for the contraption, calling it a fire engine! I keep wondering if Pip had to sneak it out when no-one was looking.

This has been a wonderful story and a delightful look at what might have happened if the Industrial Revolution (and perhaps, Valar forbid! the internal combustion engine)came to the Shire. Bravo!

(Matt Hammerstone, "in recognition of his extensive work with our esteemed dwarven colleagues and his exceptional expertise in modifying the new Fire Engine, would be…" (from a purely practical point of view, although this was not actually announced, but generally understood) "…Fire Shirriff in Charge." As Sam announced this there were not only great cheers but quite a few sighs of relief.) Good for Matt! He deserved it and I can certainly see why everyone was relieved by this. I love Merry and Pippin's new titles and the reasons why Pip can't drive the Fire Engine but my favorite part of this bit is Legolas and Pippin discussing where the wood for the Dragon came from and Pippin being relieved that it wasn't anyone they knew!

I enjoyed this very much and so did a certain Rabbit who has read each chapter twice over. He doesn't review but he did want me to let you know that this is his new favorite story in spite of the fact that there are no rabbits in it.

Loved every word!

(A Steam Vapour Spindle Activated Conflagration Extinguishing and Predicament Liberation Apparatus.) All hail the new fire engine! I love it and I adored Pippin's attempts to get to drive it as well as the fact that he managed to blame Merry and Sam for driving the old one into the Green Dragon.

And Legolas and Gimli there for the fun! Wonderful all the way through and no cliff hanger! This has been splendid. Now off to read the last.

Awww, poor Pippin, lol. I can imagine him sneaking out one night to take the Engine out for a joy-ride. ;-)

This excellent story has certainly been a joy-ride for me! I have delighted in each and every update, cliffie or not. Perfectly written by an outstanding writer. I shall miss looking forward to new updates to this tale. Yet, whenever I'll be in need of a laugh, I know exactly where to come and get them. :-) Thank you for sharing this most entertaining story!

ROTFL!! I *LOVED* that last bit! I just love your entire Shire and the hobbits inhabiting it. Most especially, your Merry and Pippin bantering at one another.

I was happy to see a new Green Dragon standing in Bywater. Things just wouldn't be the same without that beloved pub.

I have very much enjoyed this tale; it's bittersweet to think that this will be the last time I turn the page on this wonderful tale. :-(

Here I go...

Bravo Bravisimo!

A wonderfully grand ending to a grand tale. :-)

MEWD!!

(I'm glad the timbers weren't anyone Merry and Pippin knew)

"Ah yes!" Merry grinned back, then turned to the expectant crowd once more. "Esteemed dwarves, Florin and Dorin," Merry bowed to them each in turn, "have informed me it is now called, A Steam Vapour Spindle Activated Conflagration Extinguishing and Predicament Liberation Apparatus." The hubbub swelled once more with much shaking of heads and looks of puzzlement.

"However!" Sam took over. "With their honoured permission, we have decided to call it..."

Sam paused and everyone waited with bated breath.

"...A Fire Engine!"

Which will be much easier to call for the next time the machine is needed ;-)

Huzzah for the new fire engine and for the Fire Captain General of The Shire!

That was a wonderful, entertaining story! I'm just sad it's over now.

Thank you, Llinos :)

probably the most important function of the Fire Brigade was at the mid-summer Free Fair. The Fire Engine was polished until it shone and decked out once more with ribbons and flags and stood in honour at the front of the Fair entrance.

What a glorious destiny for such a noble and esteemed machine. A very, very fun story!

It was a great ending. I love the idea of a fire engine! And I'm glad Gimli and Legolas made an appearace. I think my favorite part in the epilogue is the fact that Pippin can't drive, for various reasons. Enjoyed reading this story very much, though I'm sorry I hadn't come across it sooner.
