Natural Children  by French Pony 48 Review(s)
NilmandraReviewed Chapter: 3 on 1/29/2007
Oh my, Elros finally opened the door to the closet and all the skeletons came tumbling out. And unfortunately, Elros is not too far from the truth, I think. The oath would mean their lives, should they stand in the way. A good chapter, FP. This had to be an extremely confusing time for the children.

Poor Elros. He's so confused and angry and upset, and he doesn't really understand the love he still has for Maglor. And Elrond doesn't understand *why* his twin is so confused and angry and upset - and now he's run off into danger.

I hope you can resolve things soon - I'm worried about both twins!

At least he has the proper stimulus to work himself out of the hysteria he's worked himself into--finding Elrond before Elrond comes to any serious harm in his own emotional hijacking.

They do make a pair today, don't they? And I rejoice that Maglor was sufficiently in control to keep Maedhros from hurting Elros at his worst. A child's blows to an adult during a fit of such fear are likely to be far less harmful than an adult's to the child.

And Maedhros has come around and is now once again the take-charge uncle who knows the right thing to do.

Poor Elros. I loved the lines where he thinks all the contradictory things he wants at the same time. Doesn't that just sum up so much of life?

Such anger can be difficult to deal with, but Maglor is right--something will come to allow Elros to release the anger and get the answers he needs to come to terms with his mixed love and anger at their guardian.

It was a calm life these three led...but it was not meant to last, apparently. I am curious about what is actually worrying Elros, perhpas he fears one day he too will turn into a bird? The boys are delightful and I think Maglor truly deserved this short span of peace and homely tranquility.

I'm enjoying the interaction between the boys, and their seemingly pleasant life with Maglor, although it's sort of seems like putting the wolf in charge of raising baby chicks. I might be a little worried too, if I were Elros.

It's interesting that Elros is nervous of Maglor, who saved him and Elrond, but almost completely at ease and happy with Maedhros, who had threatened his and Elrond's life (and from whom Maglor saved them). Anger displacement, maybe? These kids would be a therapist's dream; but then, a psychiatrist would have a field day with all the Feanorians. Though, given Elros' nervousness about Maedhros' right arm, there's probably some memory of Maedhros' desire to kill them.

Those poor kids; and poor Maglor, who is so enjoying raising them. I hope that if the twins do remember, or learn, all that happened at Sirion, they'll stay with Maglor until they're grown.

Elrond is right, geese are not pleasant-tempered birdies.

Oh, this is sad. For some reason I feel more sorry for Elrond than Elros - he can't understand why his twin is so miserable and unhappy.

I liked the image of the bend in the river like a pregnant mare's belly.

You have to feel for Elros. His relationship to the sons of Feanor has to be ambiguous and he's just starting to sort it out. Unfortunately, pain's going to come from it for a long time yet.
