Yule 2006 Challenge - Gwynnyd's stories  by Gwynnyd 36 Review(s)

Sheesh, poor Faramir. Aragorn gets the crown, the Elf-princess, the festivities, and Faramir gets the chore of trying to keep the realm solvent. Let's hope that Arwen comes with some sort of dowry.

At least Aragorn agrees to go on "progress"; which will give others, rather than the treasury of Gondor, the expense of housing and feeding him and his 'family' (let's see, the Lord and Lady of the Galadhrim, Elrond of Rivendell, various and sundry Elf-lords and other Elves, two Balrog-slayers if you count Gandalf, the new Queen, a Dwarf, and four Hobbits who could eat anyone out of house and home) in high style.

Entertaining vignette. I like Aragorn's touch of sheepishness at the end; he's smart enough to know he's costing his kingdom money as well as making Faramir uncomfortable with the duty of mentioning it.

Heh. Nice to know that Imrahil was aware of his daughter's fondness for Eomer while he was steering her to marry the Horse-lord.

A poignant reminder of Legolas' sea-longing and Gimli's friendship. It must have been hard for Legolas to visit the sea, feeling as he did the call to set sail for good upon it.

A fascinating glimpse into Feanor's first moments, and the start of serious dysfunction in Finwe's family. How sad that already Miriel can't cope with motherhood, and Finwe is taking the baby and turning away from her, a harbinger of what he will do by necessity later. And a wonderful, fitting ending!

Amusing and appropriate look at the high ones of Valar discussing something both reverent and prosaic.

Very clever version of The 12 Days!

Beautiful, eloquent look at Faramir's dream of the wave, in the context of a child's schoolroom. Sad that he was burdened with it from such a young age, but I tend to think it gave him wisdom and inspiration.

Well done, Willow. This is quite a challenge! And to Gwynnyd, this may take a day or two to get through. so much of my reading on this site is done laaate at night, after closing the restaurant. I may have to spread this out a bit. But so far it looks like it will be worth it.

Ever serious, ever thoughtful, even as a very young child? yes, I too think so.
The loss of his mother, his father's emotional distance after her death, added to more usual Numenorean foresight.... Yes, I believe he may have seen things from an early age.

*grin* The elves won't know what hit them... with two hobbits running around being bored.
