Remembering Anew  by Pearl Took 176 Review(s)
AndreaReviewed Chapter: Epilogue on 3/31/2007
It was also decreed that part of the celebrations in each town would include the telling of the true Tale of the Travellers.

How wonderful! That will make the four Travellers and what they really did unforgettable.

And I must say that during this story, especially during the last chapters, I have changed my opinion about Macimas II completely. I wanted him to be haunted by ghosts, I remember ;-)
But with the knowledge of that curse he becomes a victim of Saruman and the secretaries like all the other Masters and Thains before him. With leaving the Shire he showed how sorry he was for what happened and that he was willing to bear the consequences. I'm right glad that his son found him and brought him back. "The Merciful" is an appropriate title for the "new", free Master of Buckland.

And the chains with the bells! Lovely idea! Yes, Merry and Pippin will continue to look after them and their children.

Sewing the bells to the faunts trousers is a great idea!

When I started I had no idea what would happen with Macimas II. I was also glad he ended well.

The bells on the trousers is the wonderful idea of Grey Wonderer, you should check out her many wonderful stories if you haven't already!

Aha. you've finished. I must admit I'm a great coward, and couldn't bring myself to read this story past the first few chapters, not knowing where it was going. Forgive me for waiting until the end, to read the ending *first* to see if I could manage the earlier part?

It promises to be a fascinating and lovely read. Looking forward to having some reading time eventually.

Author Reply: Bless your heart, Lin! I don't mind at all. Now that you know all ends well, I hope you enjoy it when you have the time to read :-)

Thank you for the kind words :-)

I have been meaning to review this remarkable story for ages but real life kept getting in the way and my internet connection became more of a disconnection for a while!

This has been wonderful and I am so pleased to see the loose ends tied up, with poor Macimas restored to himself, Other and Jebbin free and the Travellers properly remembered. How possible such a scenario might have been, with Saruman's horrible influence hanging on to poison the memory of the Travellers and their deeds.

Loved every line of this, Pearl, and the last line was absolutely perfect.

Author Reply: Hi and thank you, Baggins Babe!

Real life does that to all of us, as does the internet and our computers.

I'm so glad you've been enjoying the story and that you liked the very last line. This has been and odd story to write and I'm so pleased that my readers have got so much from it.

Thank you :-)

What a delightful epilogue! You tied up nearly all the loose ends beautifully! I like that Macidoc went after his father.

And it doesn't surprise me that removing the spells from Longo and Tollo drove them mad--they'd been under them for so long, they probably had very little of their own minds left.

And the end was adorable!

Author Reply: Thank you, Dreamflower :-) I'm so glad you liked the ending. The babes born the same day is a bit cheesy, but I couldn't resist!

Exactly, I don't think Longo or Tollo had much left. At least the families are free now :-)

I so rejoice that the Master was able to return, and that in the end, freed from Saruman's spell, his title became "the Merciful." How wonderful indeed!

So, Longo and his distant cousin were found unhinged and treated for madness. Glad that it wasn't just the spell that had incapacitated the auld Thain, and don't ask me why; but that he was indeed senile helps me accept a new Thain in his stead the more easily.

As for watches with chains festooned with five bells each being found in the cradles of two new residents of the Shire--how wonderful indeed that our Merry and Pippin found ways to reassure Jebbin and Other that they were still being watched over by those they'd restored PROPER honor to.

A most proper resolution.

Author Reply: Thank you so much, Larner! I very much like that you feel it to be a proper resolution :-)

I'm glad that the auld Thain being genuinely senile made things better for you. It did me too.

Maybe the bells will be sewn to two wee faunts trousers ;-)

It was also decreed that part of the celebrations in each town would include the telling of the true Tale of the Travellers.

...a strange dream in which a petite being with red-golden hair had sung over them, freeing them from Saruman’s curse.

Wonderful, Pearl. Thank you for this amazing story.

Author Reply: Thank you so much, shirebound. An "amazing" from you is high praise indeed :-)

I printed this chapter out to take with me, to read at the hospital while I was waiting for my tests, so it was a very welcome distraction!

I love what you did with my "little notion"! Wow, that was cool, and explains so much! It's kind of a shame that it's over, for there's a good deal that it would be cool to know about--such as the reactions throughout the Shire when the Truth is restored. I love the name you chose for your little group of hobbits: The Restorers!

I think Jebbin and Other and their wives are kind of going to miss their ghostly friends, but of course, their visitors were on a Special Dispensation, so now that their task is done, they won't be able to return.

This was a very interesting and fascinating concept, and I think you gave your readers a lot to think about.

Author Reply: Glad I could be a welcome distraction :-D

You often have very good "little notions"!

I think they will miss the Ghosts. I know I would.

Thank you so much, Dreamflower! :-)

Shame they probably won't see the ghosts again. Their lives will seem duller. Safer, but duller.

And Saruman managed to cause difficulties even after his death - and corrupt hobbits. That must have given him a good deal of satisfaction!

As well as giving the green-eyed hobbits something to think about! Yes, they are benevolent - but benevolence needs to be watched if it isn't to become dominance. Maybe they'll be watching themselves a little more carefully for a while!

And they will all meet again - eventually!

Good story!

Author Reply: Thank you so much, Bodkin!

Yes, the green-eyed Tooks have had need to be careful over many generations and will need to continue to do so.

Any satisfaction Saruman had was short lived, for him. Good thing too as I don't think he would ever have quit making trouble for somebody somewhere.

BodkinReviewed Chapter: 18 on 3/30/2007
Thank goodness Macimas seems to have come out of his blur to start behaving like a true Brandybuck.

And Longo - now recognised - seems to have lost his power to bemuse his listeners and has become a blusterer. A nasty blusterer, too! Poor Delphinia! I'm glad Rollo came round - although it's easy enough to turn your back on a plan that seems to have fallen apart.

Mad seems to be a logical judgement. Mad being the explanation people come up with for 'a reason we can't understand'.

Author Reply: I missed this one, Bodkin! Sorry and thank you for responding :-)

LarnerReviewed Chapter: 19 on 3/29/2007
Oh, but how appropriate an ending. Again, I'm glad that the Hobbits had managed to hold their wrath, and rejoice Rollo hadn't suffered the worst of the spell--and a right nasty curse it was, too. So--Saruman was behind it, was he?

So glad Dreamflower and your hubby managed to inpire it so. The trials were wonderful. And in the end Jebbin and Other will meet the Travelers again, and I'll rejoice when that happens.

As for the prize you'd promised me--I'd like to see Pippin, Merry, and Sam and their families preparing for a trip to Annuminas to spend time in the Northern Capital with their beloved Strider. Who would be concerned to see Master, Thain, and Mayor together leave the Shire?

Author Reply: I'm so glad you liked it all, Larner :-)

That's an interesting plot bunny! I'll let it steep and we'll see what it produces!

Thank you for reading, responding and keeping me on my toes!!
