What a truly scummy thing, to beat up a little kid like that. Good job on writing Faramir here, he comes across as enough of a child to be scared and tearful, but still enough of the future Captain Faramir to remain defiantly loyal to his brother. Author Reply: I hated to have the violence - but they are all in such a hideous tight spot. The one who is orchestrating all of this is definitely evil... Bless little Faramir and Boromir... they are not finished with their suffering.

Hey, that's Targon from ROTK, only much younger! Excellent usage of a character we don't see much in fanfic. They couldn't even give Boromir some food - dirty stinking treacherous rats, starving a helpless boy. Author Reply: So VERY glad you recognized him! It was such fun to write of him. Only a short moment in ROTK but he will always be remembered for taking care of Pippin. I thought he deserved another moment here... besides, Boromir is still hungry! Perhaps the lad can help him!

Truly captivating. Excellent story telling.

So, Gondor also is capable of breeding shieldmaidens? Yes, fitting indeed. Author Reply: I just couldn't see Gondor not having women who 'chafed' at the roles society asked of them.

A gentle moment. And I can certainly appreciate Faramir's concerns. Author Reply: Not often did the boys have time, I think, to spend together, to be boys, to be brothers. I continue to hope that Denethor spent what time he could with his family - but they were all bound to Gondor and to her needs. You are right about Faramir's concerns.

A frightening waiting, and then Faramir's fever breaks on its own anyway. I DON'T like the thought the crebain are keeping watch on them, as it speaks to the one most likely to be behind the assassination attempt.

An excellent plan. And the need for the caves but difficulties in living with them is obvious enough.

Aw. Boromir is such a good and loving brother to little Faramir! Hopefully, Faramir will soon recover from the fever. Everything's gone from bad to worse, they all deserve some good luck soon. Author Reply: You know - I've never written much of the love between the brothers in their early life. I love to read other people's interpretations though. I would truly like to spend some time with this - but Denethor has other ideas! I'm surprised he let me stop long enough on 10,000 Years to get this little tale in!

I liked the friendship between Boromir and Theodred; it's good that Boromir has at a friend of his own age he can trust; especially since he's lost his beloved parents. Author Reply: I was always amazed that Tolkien had both sons born the same year and die the same year. It is more than coincidence. Someday, I'd like to write something a little longer about their friendship. Perhaps a sequel???

The trust between the two is very touching; and I hope they find the assassin soon. Author Reply: Thanks, Larner, I love the relationship between Boromir and his aunt, Indis. She came in handy after his mother died. I can't believe the boys were left with no mother-figure to help them. As for the assassin - it is sometimes very difficult to find the root of evil.
