Getting to Know You...  by Budgielover 40 Review(s)

Poor Aragorn! This was so cute--I love it that Pippin was first and fearless, and that he confided in Aragorn about Merry's fear of heights. I was touched by Sam's concern for Bill, and I had to chuckle at Frodo's prickly pride. Really, I'm not surprised he ended up in a thorn-bush! This was just wonderful--I hope we don't have to wait long for the next installment!

Author Reply: I always thought that Pippin and Aragorn must have had a special relationship, and perhaps this first gesture of trust was part of that. As the youngest and smallest, Pippin would certainly look to Aragorn for protection, which he would receive, along with affection, for just those reasons. I'll try not to take so long with the next installment!

Cute! i love fellowship stories!! keep them coming!!lol :-D

Author Reply: Hi Delrauko! I'm glad you enjoyed the story. No fear on the 'keeping them coming' part - the hard part seems to be getting them to stop long enough to have a real life. ("Real life?" asks Budgie's alter ego. "What's that?")

I NEVER thought I'd pity Aragorn traveling with the Hobbits before they were started even, but I'm beginning to. Hilarious start to a momentous trip! A good deal movie-verse, I noted.

Author Reply: Hi again (and again! *giggle*)

I love reading about those moments that are skipped over in the book, and either lightly touched or passed over in Our Movies. You are right - this story was greatly influenced by the aggravated look Aragorn wears as he leads the hobbits out of Bree. Well, it's ONE explanation of why he looks so annoyed. *grins*

As usual, a delightful story! I'm so looking forward to the next one.

Author Reply: Better late than never, Jeodo! (Both my response and the next installment of this series.) The subsequent stories might not all be as light-hearted as this one, but couldn't you just see this taking place? Poor Aragorn!

AntaneReviewed Chapter: 1 on 1/22/2006
Cute! Such innocent hobbits!

Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author Reply: Hi, Antane! Forgive the late (very late) response. This story was a lot of fun to write ... those four pairs of huge eyes watching poor Aragorn's every move. It's a wonder he didn't accidently cut his throat!

Baggins BabeReviewed Chapter: 1 on 1/22/2006
“Not many of them can sing,” Pippin said sadly. “Did you hear the Men in the pub last night? Most of them couldn’t carry a tune in a bucket.”

*giggle* That's our Pip! This story made me laugh - I loved it, and Aragorn's growing irritation and his struggle to hide it were priceless!

I used to watch my grandfather shaving with a cut-throat razor when I was about three years old, and I still don't know how he managed to concentrate with a curious chatty toddler around, but he never cut himself.

Looking forward to more of these stories

Author Reply: Good heavens, Baggins Babe - I could have used you and your grandfather as my models! I can just see you/Pippin sitting on the washstand and swinging your/his little legs, fascinated by your grandfather/Aragorn's every move. I'm so glad this story brought back good memories for you!

BodkinReviewed Chapter: 1 on 1/22/2006
Poor Strider. He must need nerves of steel to confront the amazed stares of four hobbits. Even Nazgul can hardly be more intimidating! - Well, at least Nazgul don't drive him into cut his own face.

Author Reply: Your comment about Aragorn cutting his own face struck me so funny, Bodkin. How right you are! How strange these two so-different peoples seem to each other.

CoriandraReviewed Chapter: 1 on 1/21/2006
That's so cute! Men shaving is a strange concept for the hobbits, no doubt. So of course they have a ton of questions about it. Aragorn's going to need a lot patience with them. I have a feeling this is only the beginning. :)

Author Reply: Oh, Coriandra ... how right you are! I see endless possibilities with this series. One of my favorite type of story deals with the differences between Big and Little People, and the process through which strangers become friends.

GamgeeFestReviewed Chapter: 1 on 1/20/2006
That was an adorable scene. I love the hobbits' fascination with shaving and beards, and Pippin's incessant questions. Merry's as sharp as ever and Frodo's allowing himself to be distracted with more menial things for the time being. Sam would bring up Elves and the lack of proper food in the inn. :)

Author Reply: It is fun to imagine the hobbits in such a situation, isn't it? Thank you for noticing and commenting on the hobbits' personalities - can't you imagine Aragorn forming his opinions of these four little people even as they evaluate him?

PIppinfan1988Reviewed Chapter: 1 on 1/20/2006
*snorts laughter*, oh, well, leave it to me to spell my own name wrong. Not a good night for typing. Thank you for the wonderful story--and laughs. :-D

PIPPINFAN, lol.

Author Reply: Glad you enjoyed it! I wanted to do the hobbits' POV next, but looking at them through Aragorn's eyes is so much fun!
