I am really enjoying this. I especially like the part where Aragorn thinks of a dozen reasons why letting Pippin get something out of his pack is a bad idea! Also, when Boromir has Merry tell everyone exactly where Isengard is - and they're all so surprised! And oh yes, when Boromir cannot bear to think of the hobbits being tortured. It's all just lovely, and I'm looking forward to more.

Saruman, through deception and spells, seeks to ensnare Frodo from one side and hurry him toward his coming uruk-hai, while the Ring itself seeks to ensnare Boromir. And all find themselves growing more restive. Well written chapter, Shirebound.

very intriguing story...winding it with book and movie and AU. Like it thus far.

I was sure that it did have to be Saruman--the trap didn't have the same sort of feel about it that Sauron's traps did. And it did rather remind me of "Mind to Mind". I love Pippin in this, so observant of the feelings and needs of others. His getting the wet cloth for Aragorn's eyes reminded me of the sweet scene in the EE version of the movie, when he pours a cup of water and takes it to Gandalf. He's such a thoughtful and loving lad. And Merry and his maps...these two are getting ready to prove themselves, even though they don't know it. Poor Boromir. The Ring is trying to get at him through his pity for Frodo and the other hobbits...

This is a wonderful chapter showing the strengths of each hobbit. It's also telling how the power of the Ring can distort what is good and true for its own devices, such as Boromir's affection and concern for the hobbits. It takes his own sharp observations and perverts them - no wonder people can't tell when they are under the Ringspell, since it speaks to them in terms of their own good impulses. Yes, everything IS after poor Frodo!

There were two details here that were wonderful. The first is Pippin getting a wet rag for Aragorn's eyes when everyone else is taking care of Frodo. The second is Boromir's Ring-heightened worry about the Hobbits. They're wonderful details because they show without coming out and saying it how much the Company has come to care for and depend on each other. That is their greatest strength and their greatest weakness all at once. It's what keeps them together and sane, but it's also the chink that the Ring will use to take Boromir.

Oh, I love protective!Boromir so much! I know he wanted nothing but the best for the hobbits. And I love how quick-thinking Pippin was about putting the wet rag over Aragorn's eyes. Surely there is a story behind that? *grin*

Oh poor Boromir. Full of best intentions - or so he thinks. And Pippin - Full of restless energy and then sleeping like a log, typical youngster!

That was good. I could just see Boromir reasoning things through in his own mind exactly like that. In his own mind he had nothing but good intentions, but he couldn't see that he was really being manipulated. I like your Pippin and Merry so much. They are believable and don't come off as inept comic relief. They can be as smart and resourceful as anyone else in the Fellowship. Yes, everything came a lot clearer after reading this chapter.:) Thanks.
