Ohhh, I just love this story. I *especially* love these passages: And Merry had been exposed to it not once, but three times, and had actually set blade to the foul creature. What terrible darkness must hold his cousin in its icy grip? He couldn`t really remember, but they were all there for him, in their different and equally important ways. Baby cousin, wise peer, and valued friend, all at once. And I really appreciate this passage, and how you show that Merry is doing his part to fight back: Finally Aragorn sensed the Shadow retreating as the hobbit struggled toward Aragorn’s voice and the Light. Wonderful. Author Reply: Thank you! :)

"And Merry, sweet Merry, practical and dependable, yet in different ways than Sam. Always ready with a shoulder to cry on or with a bit of advice or solution to a problem. Merry, who loved maps and books just as much as Frodo himself and who was a willing and eager student if Frodo had something to teach him. Baby cousin, wise peer, and valued friend, all at once." That's just perfect! I'm really glad that Merry finally woke up! And it's so like him to apologize for all the trouble the others had with him. I hope, there will be no further complications? But after all, the story is not finished yet ;-) Author Reply: Nope, the story isn`t finished... :) And thank you for such nice words!

Great story, Anso! Your description of Merry is just as I see him: Always worried for his cousin and forgetting his own health. And he's always planning ahead. That's something I do myself and I get really nervous when planning is impossible ;-) I loved it, when Frodo felt that something was wrong, just because Merry was not there when he awoke. And Pippin managed the frightening situation very well. Let's hope, Merry will recover soon, last but not least from the Black Breath! Author Reply: Thanks! Yes Merry would want to watch over Frodo, Sam and Pippin as much as possible, and I think him not being there would worry Frodo.

It was interesting, the way you described Gandalf's perception of the hobbits as sparks in his consciousness. Whew! I hope there aren't any more of those awful snakes around! I do hope Pippin is all right! Poor Merry! Why is the Shadow lying so heavy on him? Did it have something to do with the snake? Author Reply: I found that part about Gandalf interesting too and I`ve only been waiting for a story to use it in, lol. Pippin is so brave, isn`t he? I think he`s doing wonderfully in this story, allthough his injuries hurts a lot.

Poor Merry and Pippin! I'm so glad they were found! I like your Ranger Fermund very much. There are so many good details in this: Frodo's growing concern over his missing cousins, Gandalf worrying about their spirits, the search. And I really loved the alert way that Pippin immediately was on guard when Fermund found them. And apparently that really was a very dangerous snake. *shudder* I hate snakes. Looking forward to more Merry comfort and cosseting, as only you can do. Author Reply: Lol! I do have a knack for Merry h/c, don`t I? Lol. I`m glad you like it. Pippin is so brave, I think. Not caring about his own injuries as long as Merry is hurt.

I was very surprised to see only one review Anso as this is good stuff. I am dying to read more. Capable Pippins are a good read and yours seems to capture that balance between child and adult that all tweens suffer with although his experiences have definately shifted the balance. Author Reply: Thank you! I`m glad you like it. A few more people have reviewed, so you aren`t the only one. :)
