Very nice and plausible gap-filler. Thanks.

Oh, this is lovely, and Merry's voice sounds very true.

This was very good and I found myself wishing that it continued on when I reached the end.

Author Reply: Oh, thank you! :)

I remember enjoying this one when you posted it to the Hobbit_ficathon site but it was fun reading it again. It's a sweet look at Merry and Estella.

Just found this one tonight and enjoyed it very much. I liked seeing this from Merry's POV. Interesting since Merry had seen Bilbo disappearing act once before.

Author Reply: Yes and he would be very observant especially when Merry`s grandfater and Bilbo are having that sort of silent conversation.

Oh! I have had altitude sickness! Got within 100 feet (altitude) of a summit and simply couldn't continue, had to go back down some ways and wait for my friend to get to the top and back. Sent my camera along so at least I have photos from the summit, but it wasn't the same thing as standing there myself...

Well done!

Author Reply: Oh, I`m sorry to hear that! And thanks. It`s an old bunny that I didn`t really know how to write before Birch Tree asked for Merry h/c. I was only too happy to oblige, lol.

I liked reading about the Party from Merry's perspective. You throw in lots of little details to give the scene interest, like the significant looks passing between Merry's grandfather and Bilbo, for instance.

Author Reply: Thank you! I found this rather difficult to write as so many others have written about the party before (included me). Merry is very observant and sees a lot and knowing Bilob and Rory were good friends he`d look out for signs of his grandfather possibly knowing what Bilbo was about to do. And he has read the book and seen the Ring so I think he`s extra alert around the time of the Party. :)

A nice summation of their relationship.

O I am beaming! This is absolutely delightful!

You have a sure grasp of both characters, Sam and my beloved Merry. And what a wonderful turn of phrase: "gentle as his birth". Very nice play on words. You have painted such a vivid picture I can easily see it in my head, the two of them down on their knees, hands in the dirt, talking...

Author Reply: Oh, thank you! *blushes* This is one of my first tries at drabbles but I think Sam and Merry really are close friends - despite all their differences. :)

What would Frodo do without Sam? I think Sam is the real hero of the whole story, he was the most faithful and least corrupted. Of course I realize Frodo was the primary Ringbearer and could hardly help being affected, but it's true that we wouldn't have gotten anywhere without his gardener!

Author Reply: i haven`t explored Sam and Frodo`s relationship much - there are so many others who do that, and do it wonderful, so I mostly stick to Merry, but this was written on request for a Sam-lover. And I agree with you, Sam is the overall hero of the story. :)
