Lovely! Merry's worries and concerns were all so very well written. I enjoyed this very much and I especially liked the ending where Merry decides to be brave and have hope. So like Merry!

Author Reply: Thank you I'm glad you liked it. Merry is brave but it isn't always he sees it for himself. :)

Ah--lovely imagery here, lovely thoughts on the relationships that count and on the needs of the others as all are now taking their own paths to their destinies.

Author Reply: Thank you. Merry will always think about the others first, that is his nature, but despite his wanting to protect them I think he also understands that they need to take their own paths in life and do what they must.

What a lovely tale of Merry's thoughts while riding with Dernhelm. I am so glad that Derhelm was able to encourage Merry and dispell his gloomy thoughts. I thoroughly enjoyed this wonderful tale. :-)

Author Reply: Thank you, I am glad you liked it. :) Dernhelm didn't talk much Tolkien says but I think he would understand Merry better than Merry thought himself.

Ah, Merry h/c as only you can do it, Anso! It sounds like the poor lad was working up a stomach ulcer. Hope Strider caught it in time. Merry's just a classic Type A personality, isn't he? He's not only a workaholic, but everything that goes wrong he takes as his responsibility. Hopefully Frodo and Pip have set him straight now!

Author Reply: LOL, thanks. I need my Merry h/c you know. :D

Yes, I fear that if he doesn¨t take care he will have that but he has so many to watch over him that he won¨t get that now. I think... Hm.... another story perhaps, lol. :D

Poor Merry!

There are so many different kinds of mushrooms, it's a wonder anyone ever learned to use them safely!

Author Reply: There certainly are many different mushrooms, but if I were to trust anyone to knokw which were safe or not I`d ask a hobbit! Thanks for reading! :)

Frodo growing up, realizing he needs more, being responsible, perhaps having a small concussion after the fall backwards, caring so for Merry--all beautiful images to keep.

Author Reply: Thank you! I`m glad I gave you some nice images to hold on to. :)

This was so sweet. I loved the way the art of smoking was passed down from one generation to the next. I also liked the fact that Merry and Pippin were still adventurous enough to teach young Frodo how to smoke without exactly having Sam's blessing. The last bit with Merry remembering the his smoking lessons ties it all together perfectly.

Author Reply: Ah, thank you! :) That is what older cousins and "uncles" are for, isn`t it? I`m glad you liked it!

Ah--the passing of the torch--or (in this case) the pouch of the pipeweed and the strikers to light the pipe with!

Bless tradition!

Other than a couple of meaningless typos, a wonderful tale!

Author Reply: Tradition can sometimes be a wonderful thing! I`m glad you liked it.

Sorry about the typos, that sometimes happens when the story isn`t betaed. I`ll have a look at them.
