| Oh my. This reminded me of the Boromir Lives…and even more the Boromir/Théodred ghost continuation. Do you know when the Boromir Lives will be added to? Author Reply: I'm not sure what you mean by "the Boromir Lives"? What is it, and where can it be found? If it were one of my stories, I could give you an estimate of when it will be added to, but it is not. I can recommend a couple of stories I've read where Boromir survives: one is The Bee Charmer by Pipkin Sweetgrass (http://www.storiesofarda.com/chapterlistview.asp?SID=3943), and the other, which I'm in the process of re-reading, is An Unexpected Adventure by KathyG and Dreamflower (http://www.storiesofarda.com/chapterlistview.asp?SID=7876). I know I read a few others a decade or more ago, but sadly, I can't remember their titles or authors. I loved the Boromir/Théodred ghost story! I might even have mentioned this short story to the author in a review because that story reminded me of this one, just as you have said. | That's so thoughtful of Gandalf to leave down the secret to Merry and counted on him to keep the tradition. 'But it's got to stay a secret, Pip! For Gandalf has given the Shire-folk a great treasure, and he trusts us to hold it secret, that Men and Dwarves will not guess its true nature... I never thought of that! That is so clever for you think of. THe whole premise of the story is very creative. Awesome job! Author Reply: Very early on, it struck me that when Gandalf sailed, Middle-earth would no longer have fireworks. The thought made me so sad, I figured out a way to preserve the art of making fireworks so that they wouldn't become a wistful legend amongst the Shire-folk but rather a continuing delight. (While I'm not thrilled by the loud booming component of fireworks, I do love seeing the showers of bright colors against the night sky.) | What a thoughtful parting gift from Gandalf! What a sweet story about fireworks, delving and mining :) I hope you are feeling better. Author Reply: Thank you for your good wishes! I had oral surgery to deal with an infection almost a week ago, and today's the first day I've felt like my energy is coming back. Here's hoping for better energy going forward! (And, in hindsight, it's no wonder I've been so tired the last few months.) I'm glad you liked the story! The idea that Gandalf left the secret of black powder with hobbits when he sailed away has long appeared in my stories, for the idea that fireworks would disappear from Middle-earth made me sad. Thus, I tried to figure out how to keep the art of fireworks alive after Gandalf departed. (But up until this point, I've only mentioned it in passing and never wrote the story of how it came about.) I appreciate your reading and taking the time to share your thoughts. | |

| Boromir and the hobbits--how delightful! I found my way here through your link about the mushroom soup. I'm glad I did. I'm so glad the Travellers were able to scour away the troubles and restore the Shire to peace and bucolic pleasure, but I wish Frodo might have stayed. | I am crying as I write this. Next week is what would have been our 50th wedding anniversary had I not lost him nearly 2 years ago. | I rejoice that the animals are there, too, to rejoice in the delight of reunion in such a site and activity! How I miss so many dogs and cate and others I've loved over the years, and look forward to seeing them once more when the time comes. Thanks so for this gift, and for the time we spent together today. May we again find equilibrium in the coming days and months. And may I finally get over this cursed cough! Our fur-friends just don't live long enough, not anywhere close, and it's worse when their time is cut even shorter by mishap or disease than their life expectancy would encourage us to expect. Even though I know that certain pets, like tortoises and some parrots, have long lives, my heart belongs to feline and canine companions, and so I'm stuck. I hope that awful cough will resolve soon, either from the natural healing process or effective treatment or both. It was wonderful to see you. *hugs* | |
