Of Merry and Pippin  by GamgeeFest 108 Review(s)
BodkinReviewed Chapter: 7 on 11/27/2004
Sam is such a star. He is the archetypal loyal henchman - the one who can do anything, but still thinks Mr. Frodo is the cat's whiskers. Whereas, I'm glad to say, Mr. Frodo knows that without Sam he would be cats' meat.

Lovely tale of indomitable Pippin.

Author Reply: That's Sam all right, practicle, level-headed, capable of anything, but more aware of everyone else's abilities than his own. Frodo's all too aware of how much he needs his Sam around, and now Merry's joined the bandwagon too. Hyper!Pippin is one of my favorites, almost as much fun as Inquisitive!Pippin. Thanks for reading.

LOL! I want to adopt Sam, too! I have an 11-yr old lad who reacts the same way to chocolate - OFF THE WALL! Sam would be a great sitter. I love the easy, loving relationship you portray with our cousins, the simplicity of Sam's solution to the problem of a sugared-out Pippin, and the final picture of them all lying together in a heap, wiped out. Except for that sneaky Pip! These are just precious stories. I do hope you will continue them. :-)

Author Reply: Yes, everyone should have a Sam, he's a very valuable commodity. :) Sam would be a wonderful sitter, he has such an easy-going manner. I'm sure he has all kinds of tricks up his sleeves to keep a child preoccupied and entertained all day without exhausting himself in the process.

It's been a long time since I've been around a bunch of hyperactive kids, but I certainly remember what it was like. That's something you never forget! Add to that a mischevious Took and you're in for trouble. At least Merry and Frodo got worn out. ;) Thanks for reading and thanks for the lovely review. I'll post more as I think of them.

LOL! This is precious and priceless and I just adore it! I'd forgotten how relentless that 4-yr-old thing is. I can just see Pippin doing this to poor Merry. Wonderful!

Author Reply: I think that's the first question kids learn how to ask and they use it to excess. Pippin is no exception, and in fact, he raises the bar, lol. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for reading!

...a vague regret that they ought to have brought two bags instead of one...

(and) "Not as of yet"

Ha! Lots of fun!

Thanks.

Author Reply: You're welcome, and thank you for reading. Knowing Pippin, he'll probably take four bags next time they go mushroom raiding, and wouldn't that be a sight? They'd come home mushroom drunk, lol! Glad you enjoyed it.

Oh, thank you, thank you thank you!! I *told* you I loved Hyper!Pip, and here I get Hyper!wee!Pip; what a lovely treat! Even better than a whole jar of chocolate syrup!!

Author Reply: You're very welcome! But nothing is better than a whole jar of chocolate syrup, though little Pip does come close. :) I think the only thing more dangerous than a bored Took is a Took on a sugar high, lol! Bilbo will be buying locks for those pantry doors. ;) Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for reading.

Too cute! Love of chocolate can drive us to our limits.

Author Reply: Thank you! I'm so glad you enjoyed this. Chocolate can indeed be a dangerous addiction, especially for a Took like Pippin. I can see why his parents limit his sugar intake. Thanks for reading.

Really, amuzing... Sounds just like a child, love the part where he says do the tree's get jealous...lol... real cute...
Keep up the good work....

Author Reply: Thank you so much! It's been awhile since I've been around children that young, but I remember the "why?" questions very well. Thanks for reading.

I love all of the questions and Merry does a very good job of answering them in the best way that he can. Great story!

Author Reply: There were more questions, but I thought I better stop before it began a novel! lol. Merry's very patient with his little cousin, even when he'd rather be doing something else. I'm glad you liked it. :)

This was so very sweet; I'm so glad I happened upon it. Lovely job. :-)

Author Reply: Thank you. With little Pippin, how could it be anything but sweet? I'm glad you enjoyed it. :)

Oh, that was marvelous! And I can attest to how accurate the characterization was of little Pippin, as I had a VERY similar conversation in the car with my almost-five-year-old daughter yesterday afternoon. I was falling off my chair just now, laughing, and my husband says he appreciates the story too.

Author Reply: Thank you so much! I've had to endure the "why" questions with my youngest niece and actually remember driving my dad crazy with "why" when I was younger. I'm glad you both enjoyed the story. :)
