The Steward's Coup  by Shireling 63 Review(s)
BodkinReviewed Chapter: 20 on 11/7/2004
Three cheers for Faramir!!! Who ended the story in one piece - (a temporary oversight, I'm sure) - and happy!

I like happy endings with the goodies rewarded and the baddies snarling 'curses'. Though the hanged ones probably find it a bit harder to say.

Imagine Gimli holding Legolas down while he receives sloppy kisses! Could get some quite excited. Though I quite like the happy start . . .

Good story. Good ending. Look forward to your next production.

Author Reply: Thank you.

After all the angst I had to let him sail off into the sunset in the arms of Eowyn.

Bless you for your support.

Phew *fliewatuet wipes sweat off her forehead* I am glad that Aragorn is found at last. And not too early, as it seems. I am sorry, though, that Lord Corrin is so ill. He seemed such a fine man from the bits and pieces of information you gave about him, and without him, Aragorn would have most likely not been found in time. It's a pity that the Man who ultimately safed the King's life will probably not live long enough for Aragorn to at least express his thanks.

But my favourite part was the closing scene. Faramir was so wound up over that whole business and it was good to see him relax in the end, even though in a position that he will no doubt regret in the morning.

Oh good. This turned up to brighten a really gloomy dark wet and generally miserable afternoon.

Phew - Aragorn is safe (for the moment). And Faramir is sleeping and safe (for the moment). I'm glad Gimli was there - I think labyrinths are suitable places for dwarves to show their skills.

It's a good thing that Lord Corrin lasted that extra twenty four hours. It could have been a touch disastrous if he had popped his clogs just as they walked through the door.

Good chapter.

Wow, that was intense. I am glad that Tamir and Faramir were not seriously harmed and that Tamir could identify their attacker. But I fear that Aragorn's time is running out and they better find him soon.

Rest assured that I'll be biting my nails until the next chapter is posted ;-)

Author Reply: Thanks,

My fingers have been flashing over the keys so that your poor nails won't have to suffer for too long!

Poor Faramir - he just seems to be at the centre of so much agony. Perhaps, should he survive, Aragorn will cotton on and send him off to be a loyal steward somewhere VERY FAR AWAY, where his talent for disaster could lead others into trouble. (Only kidding.)

So now Faramir knows about the kinglet inside before Aragorn does - is that treason? At least it gives him some motivation for continuing in the event that Elessar doesn't turn up.

I don't blame Darin for not wanting to get involved in anything that might lead to further discipline - they play for keeps in the Gondorian army, but Tamir was rather determined.

Poor Faramir again - the flogging was bad enough, but now he is having to steel himself to deal with torture. Not his cup of tea at all - I just hope it's effective, as that can be the only justification to help him live with it. He's just too sensitive to be a Fourth Age Man.

Author Reply: He may be sensitive but he has a core of steel...he does what has to be done and he does have a great support network.

Hooooray!

Nice to see another chapter of this great story. I really enjoyed how you handled the wedding night. I like the idea that Faramir didn't think he was meant to have a meaningful relationship and then found one. Nicely done.

Ah ha! I knew the evil Lord Haralil was up to something. Who is going to save them! And poor Tamir, too. Have really enjoyed his character. Can't wait for the next chapter!

You didn't give Faramir much time to enjoy the bliss of marriage. It seems both he and the King underestimated to what means Lord Haralil would revert should his freedom and his business be threatened. Now you have me sitting on the edge of my seat, biting my nails in anticipation of the next chapter ;-)

BTW, I really loved the Éowyn's and Faramir's little ceremony. What a loving way to honour their loved ones who lost their lifes in the terrible war.

No! Just as things are going so well, too. A moment of rare happiness for Faramir and then everything explodes again. (It's a wonder he survived, that boy, with all those head injuries he keeps incurring!)

If the warning had only arrived a few hours earlier, that horrible Lord Haralil would not be able to do this! (It seems as if his son is an all right sort - who needs to be fostered by some sensible upright family who will Teach Him Right From Wrong).

I do hope the nice bits about Tamir and his future are not just to soften us up for his death.

Eowyn and Arwen to the rescue! Please!

Poor Faramir always in the thick of trouble.

Thank you for sticking with me, I really appreciate your comments.

You made me cry. Poor Faramir, so much emotion. He's been through so much, and he has so much going for him. I liked the bachelor 'picnic', Faramir needed his friends.

Probably my favorite chapter! Loved the wedding, the customs and ceremony. And Faramir grieving for Boromir's absence, but reaching out to Aragorn as a brother, for help and support, was very moving.

Author Reply: Thanks Raksha.

The relationship has been a long time in the making but will be all the stronger for that.
