Mid Winter Gifts  by Jay of Lasgalen 39 Review(s)

This review comes to you straight from a hotel room in San Diego, Jay. The internet is a wonderful thing!

Poor Thranduil and Legolas. At least we have the comfort of knowing that they are both safe. That was nicely done. And I liked Legolas as the good heir.

Author Reply: Ah, the internet! Where would we be without it? What are you doing in San Diego? Having fun, I hope!

I had the image of Legolas, all bedraggled but very Princely, in my head right at the start of this story - I just had to wait until the plot developed far enough to use it! I do wish I could draw him the way I see him ...

OO most splendiferous, another wonderful chapter! The fear and angst flowing through Thranduil must be horrifying, to think his only son perished in the water. But alas, we know better! Wonderful, beautiful angst abounds :)

PS - Any more Twin Angst in the near future? (hope upon hopes)

Author Reply: There's even more angst in the next chapter - that's up now. But also a happy resolution.

As for twin angst, there's none in this story, but I'm working on the next chapter of The Search right now - I hope it will be up by the weekend.

I loved how young Legolas stepped up to the plate here! The clothes really don't make the man (elf) - his princely bearing is a part of him. His father will be so proud of him. I feel so bad knowing this young family lost their son, and why do I think that the woodland king will take care of them?

Author Reply: I thought it was time Legolas was recognised for the prince he is - and Thranduil is not often appreciated for the wise and kind king he is.

I have a feeling that the fisherman who died is related to poor Estella. :( They were very kind to take in Thranduil, and care for him. Hope o see more soon!

Author Reply: Estella and her husband were very kind. Not many people would look after a stranger like that. Wait and see about the fishermen!

Very nice! I'm glad that Legolas has been found (well, and Thranduil of course, but he's not exactly been found by the searchers yet). It was really good of Elladan to want to go out again, even though he'd been seasick before. THAT takes courage! But I'm glad that he was able to help out without going on the boat after all. Really good story as always...I'm anxious to read more!

Author Reply: Thank you! And also for the help on sailing terms you gave me. They have both been found, and will shortly be reunited. It takes courage to face up to sea-sickness - and to speak to Elrond like that!

They are both alive-hooray! Great chapter. I hope to see more soon!

Author Reply: Yes, they're alive - just. And more will come just as soon as I can finsh the final chapter.

Ai! Nearly drownded prince and king! But fortunately "nearly" only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades. That's a relief.

Elladan was so noble to want to help with the lake search, but I'm glad he went to look on the shoreline with Celebrian and Arwen. If he had gone on the water again, he probably would have been sea-sick and of no use. Worse still, the twins' bond might have made Elrohir sea-sick as well. Then who would have spotted Legolas clinging to the boat?

Poor Legolas, believing his father dead.
And for the mother of the dead young sailor..... what a grievous way to face the rest of the winter. My heart goes out to her. :-(

But in the midst of sadness, there is some humor. Loved little Tayla mistaking the elf king for a woman! I hope His Majesty never learns of her error. ;-)

Looking forward to His Majesty's awakening and a father-son reunion!

Author Reply: It's fascinating to see what other people can read into a chapter. I just intended Elladan to be courageous in wanting to help - but you're right, it could have upset Elrohir as well.

And I might have Thranduil hear of Tayla's mistake - it will be fun to write his reaction!

OOOO what a wonderful Christmas gift! Another chappy! :: sighs in contentment:: And another chapter filled to the brim with wonderful angst, and up to your usual level of utter brilliance :)

I eagerly await more :)

Author Reply: It's a wonderful Christmas present to receive such a fulsome review! There's more angst ahead, but it's a Christmas story - so will have a happy ending.
