Two By Two  by Jay of Lasgalen 8 Review(s)

*LOL* Oh no, poor Firiene(with double-dots over the last e *gg*)! I'm sure Celebrķan and Elrond can tell the twins apart. What a nice story, Jay. I love how everyone falls for the twins. Funny I'm currently working on something similar - little Legolas bringing down a proud, strong, mighty King of Mirkwood! *LOL* ;)

Just one little nitpick: I am a twin myself and my twinsister and I were just as big as any other babies so I can tell from own experience (hehe) that twins aren't necessarily smaller than other newborns :)

Love your stuff! :)

Author Reply: I'd love to read that! I love Good!Thranduil stories. E and C will be able to tell the twins apart, though no one else can at this stage.

I confess to virtually no knowledge of twins at all, but just guessed that with two in a space designed for one, they'd be smaller!

Thanks for the review.

I also thought you were going to do something terrible to the twins, so I laughed in the face of this 'tragedy'. I'm looking forward to seeing how they resolve it though.

Author Reply: Do something terrible to the twins? Would I do that? I'm trying hard for 'light and fluffy' with this tale, but the angst bunnies keep getting in. Don't worry, Elrond and Celebrian have their methods.

Content and clean-smelling elflings - how adorable. I'm sure their parents will be able to sort them out, especially as Elrond has done a major healing on Elrohir. And if they can't - just keep it secret, OK? Never let them know of the confusion! Joint conception, exactly the same age - just call them both El.

I expect the elves are too honest to simply replace the bracelets and hope no-one notices!

I love them sleeping in a drawer, by the way. Such a sensible place to put them.

Author Reply: I think Elrond and Celebrian will work it out correctly. And E2 will not find out about either event for a very long time (the revelation may appear in the eventual epilogue to this story one day). The twins will eventually have a cradle more suitable to their status, but for now the drawer will have to do.

I must admit, Jay, that I thought you were going to do something awful to the infants - so only having name bracelets taken off seems like a good thing!

I think C & E can tell them apart - there will be something they will sense or some mark they will know. The infants are smart too. IF they've been named, they will tell their parents in some little way :D

Author Reply: I've already done something awful to Elrohir, so they all deserve a break. This is only minor angst really, and C & E and E2 will all have their ways of knowing who is who.

Don't bother correcting me; I know that the apprentice didn't *take* the bracelets. She just took the bracelets *off*. It's amazing what a difference one word can have, isn't it?

So the apprentice took the name bracelets, eh? Is that like the twinnish equivalent of "Throwing the baby out with the bathwater"? ;)

I have no idea what prompted me to think of that except perhaps that it's midnight and I should be asleep rather than reading your story. But I've been horribly busy the past few days and missed the last chapter and I was terribly curious as to what had happened.

Hm. I seem to be rambling a bit. I gotta stop reviewing when I'm tired.

Okay. At least there's one thing I'm sure of. I love this look at the twins' earliest (and I do mean *earliest*!) days. I'm glad you've picked this story back up, Jay. I was missing it. :)

Author Reply: She took the instruction 'undress them' a little too literally, I'm afraid. Progress on this story has been intermittant, depending on the plot bunnies, but I'm glad you like it enough to miss it. And I don't mind rambling. It's better than not reviewing at all!

Oh my goodness! I suppose, in a way, it wouldn't matter if the bracelets got switched on the first day since in most babies, it would just be a matter of a new name and what do they know? But when you are talking about the heir of Imladris, it presumably DOES matter. Not that that seems a very big concern to these folks. Perhaps their parents will be able to tell, especially since the could commune with them before they were born.

Author Reply: I've decided that the twins would be joint heirs. Elves measure age from the point of conception, which in this case was a single event. The fact that Elladan was born first makes no difference (except when he keeps calling Elrohir 'little brother' to annoy him in later stories.)

Now, how will Elrond and Celebrian work out which is which? ;)

Oi! A calamity indeed! A very entertaining chapter, Jay. I am looking forward to finding out of ada and nana can tell them apart. ;-)

Author Reply: I'm working on that part, and how Elrond and Celebrian react when they hear what happened! Thanks for the review.
