And the Halfling Forth Shall Stand  by shirebound 8 Review(s)
GalathilReviewed Chapter: 1 on 2/6/2021
Hi Shirebound. Have not read this story in years. Pippin with the ring! It would be enough

for Sauron not only be in a spin but to give him self up to the VALAR. Now that's a nice thought. Frodo

was still the best hobbit for the job. With Sam Merry and Pip by his side. I enjoyed the story very much.

Oh good grief. Pippin with the Ring. Why not, indeed? I'm having a lot of possible scenarios for that running through my head, and most of them involve the eye of Sauron spinning in dazed confusion atop Barad-dur while Pippin skips blithely into Mt. Doom, only to realize he set the Ring down while avoiding Shelob and forgot to pick it back up, necessitating a backtrack. Of course, that would be no trouble, because Shelob would go skittering the other way at the first hint that he was back ... :-P

Author Reply: LOL, that's a fun scenario to contemplate!

I can't tell you how very touched I am, sitting here - reading this little ficlet over and over again. I'm too moved to write, this is simply a masterpiece! One of the best I ever read (I can tell you I read a lot).
Thank you, little word painter. Thank you so very much!

Love,
Julchen

Author Reply: Oh my goodness, thank you. I believe this is either the second or third piece I ever wrote, back in 2002 when I was just discovering the Joy of Hobbits. I'm so pleased that these stories are still being discovered and enjoyed.

Wow. That was posted a long time ago, I know, but I was looking for something I hadn't read before. This was...thought provoking. I liked it alot. Who would have been the Ringbearer had Frodo not made it? Scary thought. Hannon le.
God Bless,
Frodo Baggins

Author Reply: Thank you, Frodo. I think this might have been the second thing I ever wrote! I appreciate your comments.

:D

Another lovely story! I always thought it would have been Sam in the end if not Frodo, but the idea of Merry or Pippin as ring bearer is interesting. Love the daisy line!

Author Reply: Thank you! It's so interesting to think about the "what might have been's" in Prof. Tolkien's tale.

Well done!

"Pippin always seems to fall in the mud and come up covered with daisies."

LOL! Isn't that the truth! :-)

Author Reply: Glad you liked it! This is one of the first things I ever wrote (in May 2002).

A very curious line indeed:

a hobbit, certainly, but not necessarily me.

Too true, although we all love Frodo - there is no reason to think that another hobbit was not destined to obtain possession of the ring.

But in our hearts I believe we are all happy that it was Frodo - not for all the bad things that happened - but certainly because he is the one who displays the courage, fear, wisdom, naivity and determination to save all of Middle Earth.
