| OH thank you, thank you thank you! No, not quite complete. I seem to remember - oh, perhaps two more chapters. Planning their Christmas Eve, then Christmas Eve with Alex, Derek and their parents. That chapter included giving Finrod's son and his friends their swords back. And a sweet, quiet interlude between Finrod and Varda. But this chapter, with Fionwe and Father Waverly in the church; for me this is the heart of the story. If this is all that could be recovered, for me this is enough. Thank you so much! Author Reply: Moderator note: Thank you for your invaluable feedback! When you mentioned those scenes, I remembered them too. (It had been so long since I'd read the story, I had forgotten the ending.) The chapters restored a few days ago came from the most recent copy I was able to find – which seems to be missing the last few chapters. After reading your comment, I went searching further back in time and found the story had at least 18 chapters in all. Please let us know if you remember any other stories that no longer appear on SoA. If they were lost in the 2025 hack, some of them may be recoverable. (Some may not be, of course, depending on the protocols used to create the backup pages.) By the way, archive.org, which has archived many SoA pages over the years, is running a fundraiser. If you have some spare change and feel so inclined, I'm sure the site operators would welcome any donations. | |
