Eä's Redemption  by AaronSecret 5 Review(s)

I am being harangued by a cat who insists on sending me off to my bed right now!, so I hope this will make sense! (It will have to be brief; the cat has the voice of a banshee and knows how to use it.)

You have done a remarkable job of capturing the essence of the Silmarils in this challenging format. Very evocative!

alas, every overdone passion turns to corruption
Alas, the joy conveyed throughout the chapter is suddenly swept away by Shadow in the last stanza. So much tragedy and grief resulted from that zeal, that passion.

Author Reply: Hehehe, feed a snack to the cat from me :)
thanks! the format is sometimes indeed challenging to capture all the descriptions and adjective I want, especially since there is also a metaphysical touch to my explanations. And yes....tragic losses, indeed...I wish Feanor's story was longer, I really like him as a character <3

Oh, I love these descriptions of the Valar... especially

So Eru chose Manwë for his heart,
which always responded to hatred
with calm lovingness, never with war,
patiently allowing restoration of the sacred...

Somehow, it resonates in my brain with Gandalf. Yes, the Wizard was irascible, but his love also shone through in all his endeavors, even as he urged the Fellowship to fly to safety before turning back to confront the Balrog, or his approach to the healing of Théoden. He did not initiate hostilities, but he certainly met them while conveying an impression of inner calm (rather like wielding the power of a hurricane while inwardly maintaining the calm to be found at its center?). I'm distracted and putting it badly, I fear.

Author Reply: Hello! Thank you so much for the thoughtful comment - this is exactly what I am trying to spark in the readers - to provoke their reflection on the deeper subject behind Tolkien's lore.
Yes, I agree with you - the story is about stewardship and wisdom, that are usually hinted in the characters' behaviour! And don't worry about it - you expressed yourself perfectly.
