Would seem that I have spent the evening with your writing and I have enjoyed it very much. I love listening here to the conversation between these two and seeing how their bond is growing. They really do have so much in common and as you listen to them speak you realize that they both need each other for support at this point in time. Merry was very clever indeed to see that this would be a good match. GW

Author Reply: Thanks so much for your thoughts! I am glad for your reviews here! I love listening to Faramir and Merry's bond growing too and there can be more fic to look into this. Merry does deserve credit for bringing Faramir and Eowyn together. ;)

You really do capture his dreams and dark mood extremely well here. Anyone can see that he has so many things to be sad about that it must’ve been difficult for him to go on at times. I like the fact that the chapter ends on a light note though with him seeing Merry in the garden again. GW

Author Reply: Thank yoU! i like to balance dark and a more hopeful time and i think that is what Tolkien does best in how he wrote LotR too.

I love thinking of Merry as a bit of a matchmaker here. While he and Faramir are sharing their worries, Merry is planning some thing that will give Faramir strength and cheer him. Very Hobbity! GW

Author Reply: thank you so much! I was really caught by them speaking in the Houses of Healing and Tolkien did mention to have Faramir bond with every hobbit and there should be more Faramir and Merry moments when Merry and Pippin do visit Eowyn and have a strong bond with both Gondor and Rohan in the 4th age.
I do like Merry as matchmaker too! =)

They give each other at one and the same time the privacy needed to deal with the known and perceived changes in each one's world combined with the comfort of knowing each is not alone, that there is another to support as needed, that both are coming to appreciate how the world has changed and will continue to change. Well done.

Author Reply: Thank you for your kind thoughts- it is really subtle how Tolkien wrote it and i think there is a lot for us to read between the lines. I think they really needed each other's support and sometimes it's the words unspoken that means the most.

“You are not the only one to have a hobbit as your friend,” replied Éowyn with a smile.

Good old Merry! He's exactly where he needs to be.

Author Reply: I love Merry in the HoH and love exploring how he helps his new friends in their recovery.

All too likely a nightmare. At least he has those nearby who will prod him back to a full life.

Love this look at Faramir's recovery from his wound and the Black Breath. Well written.

Author Reply: Thanks so much! I really enjoyed writing that and it was easy to no think about the other characters other than the hobbits that really need comfort after a hard time. I think i'll write more postQuest Faramir fic to explore even anniversary remembrances and how to deal in the present.

It would have been so difficult for Merry, once more left behind as others went to face the dangers in his stead. But at least he now has a mission unlooked for--to give both Faramir and Eowyn hope to seek in one another. Love this quiet conversation.

Author Reply: It is always difficult to be left behind. I think the three of them really had the toughest time to anticipate the good or the bad that will come out of the last stand. there should be more fic to explore this time. :)

he felt very alone in this world... Such a sad thing, on top of everything else that was darkening his heart. I think Merry felt the same way, as all of his friends had gone East -- which may have linked him with Faramir, and with Eowyn, even more strongly.

Author Reply: Yes, their bonding in the HoH is something that i loved that Tolkien hinted at and never wrote too much about. There should be more fics that develop this and gap fill this better. I believe that they have so much in common. Waiting for news is the toughest as their loved ones all went forth to the Black Gate.
