The Last Story  by Aldwen 4 Review(s)

Yes, I share the sentiment. There are those final sentences in "The Silmarillion":

"In that time the last of the Noldor set sail from the Havens and left Middle-earth for ever. And latest of all the Keepers of the Three Rings rode to the Sea, and Master Elrond took there the ship that Cirdan had made ready. In the twilight of autumn it sailed out of Mithlond, until the seas of the Bent World fell away beneath it, and the winds of the round sky troubled it no more, and borne upon the high airs above the mists of the world it passed into the Ancient West, and an end was come for the Eldar of story and of song."

These words break my heart.

Maybe not! According to the late Fiondil's story, Elf Academy, some of them stayed on earth, and eventually moved to a town in Alaska to run an Elf Academy! =)

Author Reply: Elf Academy in Alaska...? This is such a cool idea! Will definitely read that one! :-DDD

I like this idea! The idea that there is one last thing left in that region that can still communicate with elves: an ancient, withered holly tree. And this tree can actually tell Legolas tales of Galadriel and Celeborn! Too bad Galadriel couldn't also communicate with the tree. Thankfully, Legolas can!

Is that tree reborn in Yavanna's gardens? I'm curious!

I think it is! :) But that story has not come to me yet.

A too sad story beautifully retold. You have the courage to tell it within the confines of Tolkien's creation. I was tearful as I read it and am tearful still.

I, on the other hand, can't bear to accept Tolkien's reality and wish for Frodo not to sail.

You show Legolas having significant experiences according to his nature which the fellowship doesn't suspect or can't imagine. He who listened with such caring attention and gave the holly tree all of the hope and comfort in his power, is my ideal of elves. You show beautifully that elves aren't comely, immortal people. They are a race apart we can only begin to understand and you have helped us to know them better. You have also helped us to learn more from them. I wonder if the elves have improved their ability to sense evil. Their betrayal was so tragic.

I can't help but keep elves from sailing. Middle Earth will need them. We need them.

Thank you for the beautiful writing and heartfelt story.

This is absolutely beautiful, and heartbreaking, and a wonderful gap filler. Your story brings back the joy I felt when I wrote of Frodo the Ring-bearer meeting Celebrimbor in my tale "The Path to Healing". This extraordinary Elf, too, deserved to find peace and healing in the West.

“I do not know where the spirits of trees go after their housing withers. But maybe you too shall pass into the West and be reborn in the Gardens of Yavanna? Who knows?”

What a truly lovely message for the holly to receive to ease its passing into ...whatever comes next.

Author Reply: Oh, thank you so much! I am very glad you like it.
Celebrimbor absolutely deserves healing. I will definitely read your story now! :)
