Author Reply: Ah, a bukcket of cold water. Just what I needed. *grabs a towel* Yep, my friend gave me some great ideas, then I realized they weren't consistent with Tolkien's framework and thus, this story again took a back seat on my agenda. But I'll get to it soon, school permitting of course. Thanks again.

Author Reply: Wow! I have you mesmerized - the fifth time around? Could an author ask for a better compliment? I think not. And if you're anxious for an update you need not wait much longer. My friend (whose writing talent is far superior to mine) and I were brainstorming story ideas a few days ago and she gave me some wonderful suggestions - even though she had never read this fic before. Amazing. Thanks for the review. This now makes 73 reviews so far between this site and fanfiction.net *author faints from the shock*

you left your readers hanging for three months???
oh my.. you have left poor "Frodo Brandybuck" in quite a fix no question about it..i really can't wait for the next chapter.
I really admire your description, the metaphors you use and the dream that Frodo had in the beginning of the chapter was really creative to include.
I also really liked Frodo's answers to the orcs... very cool to say that he was *truthful* in some ways...

hope writer's block will go away!

I look forward to reading more =)

Author Reply: I loved the metaphors too! Especially the one of a thief robbing a treasure chest. I was really proud of that one! :) And I wanted to give people a scare with the chapter title, I can't imagine Frodo telling a lot of convincing lies under torture, so he tells lots of partial truths and the thing is that it's true! If you repeat a lie enough times it does, in a sense, become the truth, because people begin to believe it, it's really freaky. Like when Gandalf was saying (in Ch. Shadows of the Past) that Gollum kept repeating to himself that the Ring was his present, or should have been because it was his birthday and he said that Gollum had really began to believe it - and he was the deciever, he knew the truth because it happened. He wasn't a third-party being lied to. He knew from the get-go that it wasn't true, but the power of pursuassion convinced him otherwise.

The dream was something I really wanted to do. Frodo is no stranger to torture and grief and I thought that his mind would make a connection between the past and present (why else would Tolkien have mentioned the mushroom thieving in "Fellowship". As for the three months, I've actually left people hanging for longer than that. I haven't updated "Frodo's Bane and Pippin's Stomach" since Christmas and it's been longer for "His Little Evenstar" but there are some of my favorite stories that haven't been updated in OVER a year

Poor Frodo! I guess he never should have lost his poker face! That might have come in handy although I guess if the orcs can smell fear it wouldnt' do him much good. Looking forward to more, and finding out what happens to Frodo!

Author Reply: Nope, when a torturer has centuries of expericence, there's not much chance of anything getting by him.

This is really cool, having the story told from this point of view! And Frodo is going to be shown to Aragorn and the rest when they arrive at the gate? That should be interesting!

~ swg ~

Author Reply: Interesting, you say? Well that's an understatement if I ever heard one. Unfortunately, you'll have to wait for that, but I hope chapter 6 (which will be posted before this minute is up) is good enough to go by for now. Enjoy!
