Dol Guldur  by Arnakhor 2 Review(s)

Far be it from me to find fault with your choice of name, just wondering. I will just think of her as of some latter-day Aredhel.

Author Reply: Yes, I can see similarities between Drianna and Aredhel. Thanks for that observation.

I've also created names for Aranarth's two brothers in the chapter I just put up this morning. I believe these are the last of the created names for primary male or female characters in the book.

I have created names for some of Radagast's creatures. Some of which will be derivative of their actual species names. That's a few chapters from now when they 'practice' their role in the finale.

Interesting addition to your dramatis personae... What do you base her name on? Desn't sound very Numenorean. Maybe Mardil doesn't give much about bloodlines himself?

Author Reply: I wanted a strong female character included as part of the group, a somewhat independent, impetuous nature she would have to learn to mange to make a positive contribution in a predominantly male cast. Eowyn made her contributions in LOTR, notably at the battle at Minas Tirith, but she had to resort to subterfuge to get to the battle scene. I wanted Drianna to be included up front, even if it made some uncomfortable for a while, as they adjusted to her and she to them.

As to her name. Yes, not very Numenorean. Not for fault of Mardil. The blame lies with the author. If you think Drianna is distracting, I would welcome any thoughts you have for something else that would capture her persona and yet feel feminine. Struggled going through naming websites.

With the introduction of Aranarth’s brothers in the next chapter, most of the cast will be assembled. I like to develop the characters sufficiently to bring them alive, distinct, so their actions feel appropriate to their personas.

Radagast will be marshalling his own army of forest creatures and two of the captains will get some attention as they feature prominently in the finale which features simultaneous battles at Dol Guldur and in the plains at the southern edge of Mirkwood.

Some twists and turns, surprises and sacrifices await. Many thanks again for continuing to read and provide comments.
