Oh, yes, this child will one day have a special child of her own!

Author Reply: Yes, indeed she will!

“Here!” he said brightly, holding it out to Gandalf. “Plant tree for Kings!”

Gandalf accepted the acorn with a grave nod. “Thank you, lad; I do believe I shall,” he said. “It will at least afford Gondor some beauty in her time of trouble.”

I love that. Such a generous lad, and Gandalf always knows just what to say.

Author Reply: Oh I'm glad you loved it! Brand really is a generous lad, isn't he? I find Gandalf hard to write usually, but his appearances in this story seemed to work for my Muse so I'm glad you like him :)

I'm sure you've seen it ages ago, but if you haven't, Dreamflower wrote a story inspired by this chapter, an encounter between Gandalf and young Faramir, with older Faramir telling Frodo the story. It's called "Conversation In The Sun" from Dreamflower's Mathoms III. It's one of the reasons I chose "The Old Took's Faunts" as one of my first stories to post here. :)
