Beyond Imladris  by PSW 5 Review(s)

You have the gift of such vivid description that I felt I was right there with Estel. Poor kid, he's doing amazingly well for someone that age thrust into a situation like this. I love how it shows not just how he reacts but how the life of others is that you show.

I laughed over his skittishness with the big horse. Draft horses are usually the calmest horses but he's never been around one. ;) I liked that touch.

Loved him seeing the halfling and your descriptions of planting. Pipeweed! XD

And the children. How odd to think there were no other kids. Sad...but I love how she cuddles up and listens to the story older than even the sun and moon. What a lovely scene!

Author Reply: Thanks! :-) I figured a huge horse would be a bit scary, no matter that's-- truly-- that horse had no interest in acting up. And, I was excited to get the Hobbits and pipeweed in...was fun to pull in a bit from canon...

Another lovely chapter!

I like the idea of Estel relating the Ley of Luthienn to the small children!

Author Reply: Thank you! Yes, I would think it would be like telling The Little Mermaid or Beauty and the Beast or something similar to our children -- adventure and romance, don't you know ... :-)

Thanks so much for reading and commenting. I'm glad you're enjoying!

I got really excited when Estel spotted the Halflings. Between them and the family Estel stumbled on, he's met kind people who can maybe help him. I don't know how much Halflings in general knew about Imladris. I've never looked at that part of canon.

Your tobacco farming sounded good to me. Research into stuff like that is fun. Then it's tempting to share every bit of stuff you find because surely everyone wants to know all this interesting stuff!

Estel is doing very well, given his situation. We'll see how it goes.

Author Reply: I know, it was fun to get them in there. I'm not sure the Shire Hobbits knew that much in general, based on the beginning of FotR ... seems like Bilbo and Frodo did, but I'm not sure that the others for the most part even cared (is the impression I get). But Elves did cross the Shire occasionally, so who knows? In any case, with these Hobbits being from outside the Shire, probably all bets are off. :-) We'll see ...

Estel has at least an idea of what ought to be done for Ferrier, at least, and got the help the man needs for him. Love Cora and Sander and their desire to hear a story, and of course love the story he chooses to share with them.

Author Reply: Yes, of course it had to be Beren and Luthien. :-) I enjoyed that bit as well, was good to give Estel a chance to think about something else for a while ...

I was as happy to see the hobbits as Estel! I feel so badly for Ferrier, but at least he's in good hands now.

Author Reply: I knew you'd like that! I was rather happy about it myself ... :-)
