Gimli's Gift  by Armariel 5 Review(s)
AntaneReviewed Chapter: 1 on 11/14/2014
Finally getting around to some stories that got lost in my inbox. An interesting look to how Gimli's life may have been in the West. I am glad he had happiness at the end.

Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author Reply: I'd been wanting to write something about Gimli's last days in the West for some time now, but it wouldn't quite come to me. Then I saw some pictures of some gorgeous stones and then the story just wrote itself. Odd, the things that will prompt a tale, what? Thanks for commenting Antane!

How wonderful that Thranduil and Gimli at the end managed to find friendship and communion, even if they don't speak even now. And the house sounds wonderful!

Poor Gimli--he has been through so much and is so ready to let go and embrace what comes next for him!

Author Reply: Sometimes silence can say more than words.

Yes...he can let go now, and be at peace now that his inner conflicts have been resolved and he can go into the light. Thanks for commenting Larner!:):)

Sweet story, poetically told.

I wonder how much of Thranduil's hostility was really a projection of Gimli's feelings? Or was Thranduil healed, as well, in the effort? In the end it all gets resolved, in any event.

Author Reply: Thanks Lindelea! I think there was hostility on both sides; however I dare say Gimli imagined the things Thranduil seemed to accuse him of doing/thinking. He had a guilty conscience in desiring another's wife. And I think Thranduil was touched by Edenost's desire to make Gimli feel more connected, which is in keeping with the theme of being "polished" in order to reveal one's true beauty, as with the stones. And so he himself was polished in the effort, as you said.

Thanks once more for the lovely feedback!

What a unique and wonderful tale.

"You are connected to me," Edenost pointed out. "We both like stones, do we not? And we are friends. Friends are the best connectors of all, even more than cousins."

And what a wise and compassionate child. I enjoyed this story very much.

Author Reply: Thanks so much Shirebound! So glad you like it.:):)
