No, I doubt he would wish to read all that again. But at least he feels pity for his father's fears and unhealthy pride. How difficult it must have been to realize that his father distrusted what he saw of himself in his son!

His father had known so much and yet understood so little.

That's so perceptive. What a tragedy that this worthy son lived a life so unregarded by a father he loved.
