Oh, the perfect lessons well learned by two pupils, it's proved! I love Gandalf here, deciding to give Aragorn what he needs whether he realizes it or not. Sly old fellow!

Author Reply: He is indeed! I'm glad you enjoyed his games (even if Aragorn didn't;). Thanks for reviewing!

I love this. I love Aragorn being tired and testy. I love Gandalf being both wise and mischievous, and I love poor Willem learning his lesson from an Aragorn who has also learned his lesson! Marvelous!

Author Reply: Thanks for reviewing! These characters were a lot of fun to write this time, especially Gandalf.

A very entertaining tale, or should I say fable? For you've taught Aragorn a useful lesson... And the rest of us too! I do like your portrayal of Gabdalf. Well done!

Author Reply: Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed this fic, especially my Gandalf characterization. This was my first time writing him, and I was a little nervous about it.

"the treasure of the North was never the heirlooms, it was the Heir." And years later, a Hobbit once also called a "Burglar', who had retired to Rivendell, wrote a poem about his new friend "Strider" which included "all that is gold does not glitter". It sounds like heroes are indeed "made, not born". Even Aragorn son of Arathorn had to learn to be the kind of person he became. And the gold within can never be stolen. I wonder, too. I have read several lovely fan stories featuring King Elessar greeting people he had known before the war, either in Gondor or on his return North. Many years from this story, it would be fun to see what kind of man Mr. Trill had become, and watch his reaction as he realizes that "Strider the Ranger", who helped him change his life, is now his King! Another thought. Gandalf tells Denethor that he, Gandalf, is also a Steward, only one responsible for protecting all life. I believe that Gandalf was just as interested in helping Mr. Trill become as his Creator intended him to be as he was in helping Aragorn. A lovely picture of a moment in Aragorn's life.

Author Reply: Thanks for the thoughtful review! I happen to agree with your theory about Gandalf's motivations; he has a rather famous habit of noticing and concerning himself with the kind of people everyone else ignores. I might revisit Mr. Trill at later date; I'm not sure yet, but my OCs have a habit of cropping up in later works, whether I want them to or not.

Glad you liked the story!

An excellent tale - I can quite see why it won at Teitho.

What a delightful and unusual tale! I really enjoyed this.

“Nobility is not to be found in trappings, Aragorn. You know it, I know it, and now young Willem Trill knows it too. The treasure of the north was never found in heirlooms. It has always been in the Heir.”

There's so much wisdom in your stories, my friend. May they go ever on and on.

Author Reply: Aww, thank you! I'll do my best. Thanks for reviewing!
