Musings  by Miriel 6 Review(s)

Ah, I loved this last one. It gives hope that maybe there is some childish magic left in the world...it is very sweet! Now I'm in the mood for chasing fireflies (and hope to chatch a fairy instead).
I liked them all, really. The Galadriel, Daeron, and Feanor ones are worded perfectly, and the Nazgul one is different with a bit of a rough feeling that goes well with the Nazgul theme.

Fireflies? Where I grew up we used to catch fireflies of a summer's evening. Or are they really fairies? (anything is possible in Middle Earth)

Author Reply: That question, I believe, is for the reader to decide. Do you believe in magic? Or do you pass it off as something as easily explained as fireflies?

Thank you for the author's note at the bottom. I don't remember who Feanor is (*gasp*) but am more tempted to pick up the Sil and read it again; it has been such a long time, and I do believe it will mean more to me than it did at the time, especially after reading fanfic by folk who love the Professor's works.

Author Reply: *Double gasp* He was the one who made the Silmarils and led the Noldor out of Aman. He made much trouble for the Valar.

I do not know this story, only the barest details of Beren and Luthien, so I don't know who is speaking, but you portray his anguish so well. I like this character and the way his love for Luthien is expressed in his regret and desire to help her, even if it means denying his own happiness.

It is very early, and I have not yet put the kettle on for tea. I hope this review made sense!

Author Reply: Thank you for your review!

Daeorn was the minstel in Doriath, Luthien's kingdom. It was he who told her father, Thingol, of her romance with Beren. Thingol then sent Beren away to find the Silmaril and locked Luthien in a treehouse. (That's the best word that I can use to describe it.) Daeron then visited Luthien, feeling horribly guilty, but she forgave him. He was the only one that she would let up in her tower. After she escaped from Doriath, Daeron, full of despair, left Doriath and spent his days alone, composing a lament for Luthien, his lost beloved.

You capture nicely the feeling of compulsion and reluctance, nay, stronger than that, repulsion, resentment, in your spare lines and repetition of "The Call"

Well done!
