I Entulessė (The Return)  by MJ 3 Review(s)

Rather an overly dramatic response to the situation, I fear. Olorin, what have you just wrought?

Wow! The word cliffhanger can't even apply to this chapter, because Olorin doesn't even make any attempt to hang on.

That the damage to Gandalf could have been foreseen does not surprise me. That the fault is Manwe's, and that the fault stems from pride, does not surprise me either. The greater one is, the greater the temptation to pride. And I had no illusions that the Valar were perfect.

That Olorin is angry does not surprise me either. He has been betrayed, and that is the unkindest cut especially to one who always lived to serve. That he would take such a rash action does surprise me, for the utter loss of hope seems too much to believe for this character. However, his action also reminds me of another dive off a tower, this in the movie version of the escape from Orthanc - one that was more calculated than it seemed at the time, and we'll see if that's the case here too.

By the way, I loved the description of the Eagle ride. I think I would have been too frightened by the heights to have appreciated any of the beauty, and it was nice that Frodo was able to, hazy though those thoughts were.

Goodness! I look forward to seeing how all of this gets resolved! What a complex story.

On a lesser but more delightful note, it's lovely to know that Frodo has taken at least one "eagle ride" that he was able to remember and enjoy. :)
