Down the Withywindle  by Clodia 8 Review(s)
LarnerReviewed Chapter: 3 on 1/22/2012
I love this progression in the wooing of Goldberry by Tom. But now he appears to worry more about his hat than how she might soften to him. At least he accepts her as she is, even if he sees further into what she might and will be if she accepts his suit!

Author Reply: This is such a belated reply - I think the notification got lost in the aether. I'm so glad you like these ficlets! Thank you so much for you review. I really must pick them up again sometime...

Again, wonderful images here, Clodia, and lovely word usage! Tom's poor hat is having a time of it, isn't it, now that it's become Goldberry's newest toy? Beautiful!

Poor Tom! He misses Goldberry. He misses his hat.

If she still has the hat, it might mean she loves him.

He'd like to have them both ... but he'd settle for just the hat!

Author Reply: Exactly! It's a cruel dilemma. :'D

Your rainstorm is so evocative. Beautiful choices of words. One more example of why I enjoy your writing so much.

Enchanting diction here! It sings on the page. And the characterization is delightful. Looking forward to more.

I am always happy to see anything that you write, Clodia, but this is a little gem. Before Goldberry is Tom's companion (but after Farmer Maggot since Tom mentions his mushrooms - I assume this was an ancestor of the late 3rd age Farmer Maggot?) she was a little flirt. And taking his feather hat along with her down the river. Perfect!

Author Reply: Ahaha, ooops, yes I guess Farmer Maggot's family goes back a very long way. Maybe not that far, though. Well spotted, I may have to tweak that. And I'm so glad you like this! I do have a soft spot for Tom and Goldberry, although I know it's a minority viewpoint. ^^

I love the language here, and that Tom is so completely unsuccessful! How did he win Goldberry's affection?

Author Reply: You know, I'm not sure; but I'm tempted now to write more snippets from down the Withywindle to find out... I'm glad you like this, anyway! Thanks for reading. ^^

I love this skirmish in love between Tom and Goldberry, and the delightful reflection of their disparate but complementary natures. Ecellent!

Author Reply: Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it, as ever! It was fun to write. ^^
