Gilraen, the Fair  by Gwynnyd 11 Review(s)

A delightful telling of Arathorn's meeting with the barely adult Gilraen - there is good reason for his sudden fall in love with her. Lots of good dialogue and wit and humor. The story makes me wish more than ever that Arathorn could have lived a few years longer.

A perfect pair of stories, and a pair of perfect lovers, too.

Lovely story! I really enjoyed it. I had missed the first one, or at least I didn't remember it so this was a very nice treat. Thanks so much!

That was a lovely story! It was also a very nice use of the word "Fair" - quite unexpected in the context of a love story.

Oh, I love this, Gwynnyd!

You turned the usual meaning of "The Fair" upside-down and inside-out.... and Arathorn's thoughts, too! Gilraen was certainly not what he expected, though he had already gotten a hearty dose of her uniqueness fifteen (or so) years earlier....

Well done!

Author Reply: After seeing "Born of Hope" with a blonde Gilraen, I knew I had to do something with "the Fair" appellation.

I'm glad you enjoyed it. Thanks!

Marvelous! I love how you've written Gilraen, and Arathorn for that matter. Arathorn's parents come to life in this in such a fun and lighthearted way, which is not how we see them, usually. So enjoyable to see Arathorn alive and well, and Gilraen carefree and happy. I'd love to see more about their courtship!

Author Reply: Even with the shadow closing in, it can't be all doom and gloom. They have a right to be happy. I don't have any other thoughts about their courtship, at the moment. Sorry.

Glad you enjoyed it.

It's so good to see something new from you and this one was most enjoyable. I suspect your Gilraen is the 'fearless and strong' woman Tolkien portrayed her as, though that's a most interesting reason for being called 'the fair'!

I'm looking forward to more.

Author Reply: I like to write Gilraen. I'm only sorry she didn't have her own estel at the end, or live to see her hopes fulfilled.

I'm glad to be able to write again, too! Thanks!

Wonderful story! I reread the other as well and think they go well together. Now we need the proposal! Not the one Arathorn offered her father.

Author Reply: Proposal! Er, sorry. I don't have any idea. But I'm very pleased that you liked it. Thanks.
