Enduring Moria  by White Wolf 3 Review(s)
Sulwing of MirkwoodReviewed Chapter: 1 on 4/15/2010
Yay-ya! I return from the pit of real life and I find a White Wolf fic! :)

Great theme too! Just because you're afraid doesn't mean you are a coward, it's your reactions to that fear that count. lol, Legolas wasn't necessarily making things easier for Frodo though. I liked how the hobbit helped Legolas.

Soooooo, going to start another of those long cliffies wherein Legolas and Aragorn get the stuffing beat out of them, face horrible weather, orcs, and death? Or worse? Yet amazingly come out alive? :D

I'll be waiting! ;D

Author Reply: Please forgive the appalling delay in answering this. I was never notified about it, and RL has kept me from checking this site very often.

I'm glad you like this theme. It's true that fear itself don't make a person a coward. Running from it does, unless it's a prudent retreat, which is a different situation entirely. Also one can help themselves by helping others with the same problem.

I have a new adventure started, but I'm not going to post it here. Most readers at this site don't tend to care for Legolas/Aragorn angsty adventures. You can read it at fanfiction .net. Here's the url.

This one is a good deal more introspective than many of your stories! You have created a very real window into Legolas's mind and fears. Frodo's fears feel very real, too. Even if Gandalf or Aragorn suspected Legolas's fears and steered Frodo to him for advice, Frodo would likely not suspect any trickery. Very often those who teach learn more than they give. Legolas has indeed won one of his toughest battles here.

Author Reply: Yes, it is. I like doing this kind of story, in addition to the crazy adventures. I leave it up to the reader to decide if anyone sent Frodo to Legolas. I like to think they didn't, because there was little if any real interaction between the elf and hobbit, so I like the idea that Frodo approached Legolas on his own.

We often do help ourselves when we make the effort to help others. I believe this is a turning point of sorts for Legolas.

The anxiety he felt at being in Moria would last but a few days. Frodo’s would last, growing each day, until he reached Mount Doom and destroyed the Ring. In the face of that knowledge, Legolas felt humbled yet infused with a new-found determination to help the Ringbearer reach his goal.

That's a very courageous and mature decision. It's what we learn (or teach) in the small, quiet moments that mean the most, I think. I enjoyed this.

Author Reply: I agree. That was a turning point for Legolas. He always had the courage; he just needed to realize that facing fear is the meaning of courage. I think that helping others often leads to helping yourself. I'm glad you enjoyed the story.
