At least he isn't trying to go alone.

Author Reply: No, though I think being just out of his tweens, Pippin might still have one or two impetuous moments up his sleeve, but not today. Today, he carefull weighs his options.

Pippin now appreciates what responsibility entails. Hope they find him without too much damage!

Author Reply: As for me, I imagine Pippin learned what responsibility meant while in Service to his King during the Quest. But I thank you for your comment -- my Muse is getting off her lazy duff now, lol.

"The Lochinvar Factor" is a benchmark of my own for girls who aren't sure if the bloke they fancy is really "The One"! IMHO, most romantic poem ever written. Sir Walter Scott - read it! http://www.rampantscotland.com/poetry/blpoems_lochinvar.htm

Author Reply: Wow. I hope others click onto this link -- what a beautiful poem! I wholly agree with you; *very* romantic! I understood your previous post to be a compliment, but now I see it much more so. Thanks for sharing the Lochinvar Factor. :-)

Ah well, Pippin shouldn't blame himself, he did try to stop him. But I like that Degger has what I call "The Lochinvar Factor"! Always a good quality in Man or Hobbit!

Author Reply: "The Lochinvar Factor"...interesting! Now I'm the curious one!

I liked the way that Paladin tested Pippin in this chapter and the way that Merry observed, understanding just what Paladin was doing. And of course Merry will go with Pippin!

Author Reply: Thanks! Although I played on the idea of Pippin receiving "formal" lessons as a child, I can't imagine that there would be formal training for Thainship -- nor Master of the Hall, other than what the incumbents passed down. :-)

I enjoyed the way Paladin handled that. I like that he let Pippin reason it all out for himself. I also thought Merry did a very good job of stepping in without actually spoiling Paladin's lesson. Now I do hope they find Degger and soon. Your snow storm seems to have turned into a blizzard!

Author Reply: They don't get much snow, so anything is considered a blizzard there, lol. I just imagined a steady snowfall. :-) I won't go into the psychology here, but I like the idea of Paladin's transference of his office to Pippin to be a smoothe one, and one that Pippin really benefits from. You'll see the story about that sometime this year. ;-) See you in the next chapter...
