Bregaith and the High King's Spear  by WendWriter 2 Review(s)

A great portrait of daily life in Rivendell; I like the contrast between the young twins' games and the courtly evening pastimes; not to mention the epic tale of Bregaith. Nicely done!

Author Reply: Thank you very much, my dear. I shall be sure to return the compliment at the first opportunity. I feel really welcome now! :D

Hello and welcome to SOA!

I remember this story well, it ws one of the first of yours that I read. What I like about it is the way the frame and the embedded story work together, the contrast between the martial and the domestic setting, between the formal language of the reciting elf and the gentle and more casual tone of the main narrator.

Author Reply: Thanks, dear.

Juxtaposition can create a tension of its own in a story and hold the reader's interest: I was experimenting here. I promised readers another outing for Bregaith, but I haven't got around to it yet.

I love SOA, and have always thought that, the minute I get onto a quality archive like this, I've arrived as a writer. Many of the Excellent writers have accounts here, so I know I'm in good company.
