Dereliction Of Duty  by Jay of Lasgalen 9 Review(s)

This was a delightful, though tense, tale. Growing up can be painful - thankfully, Elladan's actions could have jeopardized his company, he will learn from this.

Glorfindel's handling was superb - as one would expect from the Lord of the Lord of the House of the Golden Flower.

Nicely done! Great to read before the holidays.

poor Elladan, even through Glorfindel is quite right to be angry at him. Good intentions are often not honored as such. Liked the story very much. Lai

Definitely an appropriate--and necessary--punishment, and another skill he shall need even if he does gather to himself an appropriately skillful clerk and adutant.

Love it, Jay.

Ah, so this was a short story... I was hoping it might go on to something greater, the way that first chapter went. But this was a satisfying look at the more routine patrols, and an excellent look at Glorfindel's leadership skills and his compassion. My favorite line, though, has to be, "You proved yourself an idiot, but I already knew that." Very enjoyable tale!

Although I still want to know what happened to all those Elves that went missing...

I'm glad to see you got this posted, Jay! The changes are great--I think it's quite improved in this version.

a satisfying end to the tale. Poor elladan! at least the punishment wasn't worse...

Oh Elladan, what are we to do with you? Sometimes our good intentions back fire quite spectacularly, case in point!
Glorfindel is right, though, he is not the only one at fault, both Elrohir and Ilmarin should have woken to take there shifts and not relied on Elaadan to wake them.
Hope Glorfi survives too!

All the paperwork for two weeks? Oh, now *that* is a truly horrendous punishment! Glorfindel retains his reputation for creativeness....

Nicely done, Jay!

Author Reply: I know how Elladan feels! I've just spent my two days off writing the Christmas schedules for my department :(

Where's Elrohir when you need him?

I'd forgotten about this story!

Nice, realistic conclusion. Wise Glorfindel's actions are directed at making sure Elladan learns from his mistake, not at venting his own anger.

Author Reply: Thanks, Daw! I'd nearly forgotten this story myself - it took a long time to get it finished.

The twins are fairly young here, and still have a lot to learn. With Glorfindel's help they might just live to become mature, experienced warriors :)
