Truth Be Told  by Virtuella 9 Review(s)

This is beautiful work. The prose is lovely and the imagery sublime. The characters are believable and, more importantly, lovable. You're on my favourite author list for a reason! :D

The psychology is well-rendered, and this is a perfect sequel to The Measure of a Man. It's great to be able to show friends the high standard that fanfiction writers can attain. :D

Author Reply: Thank you, I'm glad you're enjoying this story.

This is such a great opening!

I love your learned Faramir (and having the benefits of knowing the other chapters I can say I really enjoy his articulations of later philosophies--and knowing that they're incomplete!). I suspect the problem in his thoughts here is that getting so caught up in the greater good of a community can stifle individuality--humans are not a hive!

The characterizations of Deoric and Fana in their early marriage are touching; you can tell that these two know and are comfortable with each other in a way that would have been impossible before their marriage.

And Lothiriel is such a sly minx!--and I mean that in nothing but the most complimentary of terms, of course. I love the way you smoothly present the new challenges that will await Deoric in this story.

Wow - what a great chapter... Just gripped me fully. I liked that you didn't quite start with the end of the other story - but took us a few months into that future...

Nicely done indeed....

Author Reply: Thanks. I hope you'll enjoy this story. It'll be a bit different in tone from the last, but interesting, hopefully.

Ah--finally a time to savor this. Love the contrast between the philosophical Faramir and his practical wife; then the practicality and youthful feelings of anticipation we encounter in Edoras as they overcome Deoric's anxieties and return his ability to ride. Yes! Yes, this is the desire of a Rider! And an artistic challenge as well as the challenge half-fulfilled now to return to riding.

Although the fact that the paint powders are identified as being potentially poisonous has caught my attention. Ah--I can see this!

Now--what is wrong with Eowyn?

Author Reply: Thank you. Philosophy will play a crucial role in this story.
Traditional pigments were often toxic, especially if they were lead-based. I don't plan on poisoning anybody, though. ;-)

Something tell me that Faramir will soon have considerably more on his mind than pond skaters.

And Deoric is learning to ride one-legged; how wonderful; his mobility will certainly be improved along with self-esteem and life in general. Nice to see married life treating him so well.

Author Reply: Well, I made Fana and Deoric so miserable about each other in the first story that I feel I owe them some happiness! ;-)

It is nice to see a story about someone with a physical disability who is having realistic trials and tribulations, as well as some successes. So many people in Rohan and Gondor ended up with permanent injuries.

Author Reply: Yes, that was one of my motivations for writing the first story, just to see how a disabled person would cope and make a new life for themselves.

Lovely to see the next episode of Déoric's life, I will consume each chapter with glee.

Oddly enough I was thinking about Déoric last week when I was in York and visited Barley Hall. If you have time to go and look at the pictures on my LiveJournal - (http://curiouswombat.livejournal.com/196869.html#cutid1) particularly the fifth one down, with my daughter on, I think you will understand why!

Author Reply: Oh, what great photographs! Looks like a place I'd like to visit, too. We've been to York a fortnight ago just for a day, but visited the National Railway Museum, which the children loved.

Well, I was worry when I read the summary of your story, but now, I'm afraid of what is going to happen after reading Faramir thoughts, he is someone that you should not cast aside, I have speculated about the significant of his thoughts, but it is too early to know, it will be interesting to read this story, don't need to tell you that I'm already waiting for the next chapter.

Lothiriel will make Deoric a court painter, with colors, what an amaizing gift for him...

Eomer and the truth about History? I always read and know that the "Official History" is made by the victor, there is other POV, but the are not "official".

Author Reply: Thank you. I'm not sure what exactly makes you worried about the story, but I hope you won't be disappointed.

Oh, how promising a beginning to this new story! I grinned when I "saw" what the princess had sent Deoric-- he's in for a good time! Is he going to learn to gild, as well?

And I have suspicions about Eowyn. *crosses fingers*

Looking forward to more!

Author Reply: Thank you! I'll not give away anything else just now - you know too much about this story already! ;-)
