Very nice...

Elladan and Elrohir, you can tell they we be by each others side, and in they are to die they will die together. You can tell thier loyalty toward each other and love they hold.

Very nice....

What a very moving, powerful piece, Jay. I love how the focus of the scene is on Elladan and Elrohir but you give us those touching glimpses of Aragorn to remind us of hope and strength of spirit in this dark moment. How hard it must have been for those waiting for battle, with no real expectation of victory. The sorrow-tinged courage and determination of Elrond's sons is heart-wrenching. Wonderfully written.

Author Reply: Thanks, Dot! And thank you for noticing Aragorn here. I wanted to show him as a true king, offering hope and courage to his men.

I don't thank any of them expected to survive this battle - but they were prepared to fight anyway.

This is heart-wrenching, Jay, as somber as my mood. I'm in tears....

Very powerful!

Author Reply: Thank you. I'm glad it touched a chord (but sorry you're unhappy ...)

Sad, but touching, Jay. It must have been a horrible night for all the men in this army, knowing they would have to face a battle they couldn't win. No matter what they felt when they left Minas Tirith, there was still the possibility that Frodo would succeed before they reached Mordor. But now there's no escape.

And the twins are right. They would be a great prize for Sauron - they and Aragorn both. Don't want to think about what would have happened if he had caught them alive ... *shudder*

Anyway, it was a great glimpse on how they must have felt in these last few hours before the battle. But I am glad to know it turned out so well for them.

Author Reply: There was a line in LOTR where the Captains of the West are debating this strategy - and someone says 'there are names among us worth more than a thousand knights apiece' (paraphrasing, I don't have the books with me). It seemed obvious that Elladan and Elrohir would be among them. They'd be a clear target for Sauron and the Nazgul.

Yes! That is exactly how I would envision it. Well said, brothers!

Author Reply: Thank you! You know how I love the twins, so it was easy to imagine them here.

This is a very realistic and poignant scene. Well done.

Author Reply: Thank you. It was interesting to think how Elladan and Elrohir would deal with this last night before battle.

What a hard moment. And I suppose they had no reason to expect victory. The waiting must have been worse than the actual battle.

Nice scene, Jay.

Author Reply: I don't think any who went to that battle expected to survive. That last night must have been a very long one.
