Distractions  by GamgeeFest 8 Review(s)

I did a catch up read tonight! Loved the prank that Frodo pulled but I am having a very hard time convincing myself that Merry plans to let things go. LOL

I liked the fact that Pippin was willing to be the one 'who was afraid of the rat' at least while in public. LOL

That Frodo really is a scamp!

Author Reply: Well, Merry agreed to drop the prank against Frodo. He didn't say anything about Pippin, so who knows... ;)

Merry's little lie was hardly fooling anyone, but Pippin is a good friend. He'll happily take the brunt of the jokes for this one.

Frodo is the King of Scamps. :D

“He is fond of them, then?”

“Oh, I shouldn’t say that,” Frodo said, wrapping up the parcel again and tucking it into his coat pocket.

LOL! I don't know why, but this made me think of rats ;-)

What a great prank! It was not dangerous or mean, but it was sufficient to give Merry a good fright :-D

And I loved Pippin's reaction when Merry said that Pippin was afraid of rats. He has always been Merry's best friend!

I'm looking forward to reading more!

Author Reply: Frodo is a clever one and knows just what Merry's weaknesses are. He just needed to nudge Merry in the right direction so that he saw more than what was actually there!

Merry was hardly fooling anyone, but Pippin didn't want Merry to be completely humiliated, so he accepted the blame. :D

I loved the talk Frodo and Sam had in the beginning. It was intriguing about the Ring, loving of Frodo to continue to reassure his Sam about Rose, and cute that Sam is due for a big raise. :)

Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author Reply: Frodo always looks out for his Sam. Being near the Ring so close to Mordor couldn't have been easy, especially after possessing it for a short time. It was liable to play tricks on Sam's mind.

Sam will learn soon enough that Rose did wait for him. For now, he can at least take comfort in Frodo's reassurances. Yes, I would say Sam is due for a very substantial raise! ;)

Now, THAT is a decent prank! And Merry is blaming Pippin? Heh! Silly Hobbits!

Author Reply: Frodo is the best for a reason! I think he defended his title quite nicely. ;) Merry just had to try to save some face, and Pippin, being the good cousin and best friend that he is, happily goes along with it.

oh im so happy! They finally pulled the real prank on merry! It was wonderful...although the though of rat skins is just GROSS. but i suppose that is all we can expect from the biggest rascal Buckland ever saw...

Thank you so much for updating, and I cannot wait to read more.

Author Reply: Merry certainly got what he deserved!

People back in those days didn't waste anything. I'm sure there were uses for rat furs, the poor rat-catcher had just never seen this particular one. Only Frodo would think of such a thing!

Thanks for the review!

Oh mercy! This was hilarious! I loved the way Pippin blandly accepted Merry's declaration that *he* was the one afraid of rats, LOL!

I am quite sure that the Men are going to be scratching their heads over the strange ways of halflings for years to come!

And I am quite sure I know what Gandalf and Aragorn's errand is, of course!

The prank war seems to be over; however, I have a feeling that the distractions are not...

Author Reply: Well, I don't think Merry was fooling anyone! ;) It was very clear who was the one afraid of rats, but they were kind enough to spare Merry further humiliation. The Men will certainly have a lot of stories to tell about Hobbits by the time our four leave.

Gandalf and Aragorn are hunting down a certain something, all right. ;)

More distractions are on the way. :D

LOL, revenge is a dish best served cold! That was delightful.

“You’ll get married to your Rose if it’s the last thing I do.”

I just love that line. :)

Author Reply: Merry certainly got what was coming to him - and he can't say he wasn't warned! ;)

Frodo always looks out for his Sam. :)

Oh, this prank was great fun! I could HEAR Merry's shriek. It reminded me of the shrieks when Merry and Pippin set off the fireworks in the film version of FOTR. I seem to recall Billy Boyd saying in the DVD extras that he actually WAS shrieking in fright at the time.

And liked all of the conspiracy and your descriptive language, such as Sam smoking in the semi-dark. (I laughed when you had him hold the smoke before releasing, too. Hah.)

And the serious conversation about Rosie and effects of the Ring.

Very nice chapter!

Author Reply: I'm sure Merry will agree with you - after a few dozen years or more! ;) At the moment, he's still too busy feeling ridiculous to see the humor in it.

Well, it has been a long time since Sam has enjoyed a decent smoke. I can imagine he'd want to savor it as much as he can. :) Good think Gimli's healing stones are still doing their work, or Sam might have let that worry eat away at him. If only Frodo could ease his worries so easily.
