Distractions  by GamgeeFest 5 Review(s)

Farzana's words are very wise. *hugs her for them* Frodo did not break his vow. He said "I will take the Ring" not "I will destroy the Ring". He fulfilled his vocation perfectly, though I understand why he would think he failed. I hope her words sink into his heart and heal it, along with all the other wise words he hears from other, even if such healing doesn't take place in Middle-earth itself. And that's a bit of a cliff-hanger here too. :)

Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author Reply: She is a wise queen, who has had to lead her people through just as perilous a journey as the one Frodo undertook, even if she never left her palace to do so. Tyranny has shown her much and she was wise enough to keep herself from falling into the trap of revenge. Her words may not be of immediate help to Frodo, but he will carry them with him over the Sea and there be able to reflect on them and discern their true meaning. He is simply too confused at this point to do so.

(“I have burden enough as the queen, so I speak with authority when I say this. Do not take burdens to yourself, Lord Frodo; they will find you well enough on their own.”) Very wise words. If only Frodo can take them to heart.

Author Reply: I do think he may try to listen to them, but it really is Sharkey's ominous words to him in the Shire that hammers in that last nail. She has at least given him something to think about, but even now his thoughts are so confused that he can't appreciate the true meaning of her words: It's not his fault.

What an interesting conversation!

You meant to sacrifice yourself and so you have.

It's astonishing and, at least to Frodo, alarming how well Queen Farzana understands him.

And she's right! By bringing the Ring to Mt. Doom Frodo sacrificed himself.

It seemed to me that with that direct statement she voiced Frodo's own thoughts and fears and confirmed them.

Poor Frodo! We know that "Luck" did not leave him. He was granted time to heal. Unfortunately he does not know that yet.

So, I think it's high time for another distraction! Go, Merry!

Author Reply: I don't think that Farzana understands Frodo so much as she does the situation. Her people would be long familiar with the concept of sacrifice and all that entails. The one who is sacrificed is hardly the only one to be affected, elsewise, it wouldn't be a sacrifice.

She did voice much of Frodo's own doubts and worries. He's still too close to the event to think of what she is saying objectively and see the truth of it - or the comfort of it. He did do what he meant to do, and he could have done no more.

More distractions coming up! :D

As the Eye poured his life force into the Ring, Elessar put his hope into you. If you had died, his victory would have meant nothing.

What a marvelous perception. This was a wonderful conversation to read and think about.

Author Reply: It would have been a hollow victory indeed, had Frodo perished. That would be an interesting AU - just what would change if Frodo had carried out his plan?

Poor Gollum--the sacrifice the Ring took to Itself as It was destroyed! And poor Frodo--only partly healed.

I hope Ioveta will return to her home, and that some word of her husband can be found. At least the rebuilding begins here on the Pelennor as it does within the city!

But Frodo--his final questions and the answers given him....

Author Reply: The Ring in a way sacrificed itself as well, in its effort to fulfill its warning to Gollum! A tangled web... Frodo is trying to make a good effort of it, but he won't find true healing until he goes into the West.

Good things are coming for Ioveta, though they won't be what she is expecting. The Pelennor has a long way to go, just as the city, but at least the speech was short! :D

Frodo found little comfort in his conversation with the queen. His own doubts and worries only compounded on what she was merely speculating.
