Distractions  by GamgeeFest 6 Review(s)

And it's all in a day's work for Aragorn. I feel a bit sorry for him... trading in the life of a ranger for that of a bureaucrat. Then again, Arwen will keep the excitement alive... and perhaps sleeping under the stars with your sword at the ready loses its luster after many decades? ;o)

Author Reply: Being a bureaucrat has it's advantages: feather mattresses, regular meals, and most importantly, baths whenever you want them. :D I'm sure that Arwen would take care that he and the boys get out on their annual father-son camping trips. ;)

I love Aragorn's amusement at Pippin's remark that he must keep his strength up - and that Pippin would say it at all - but most that Aragorn obeys without question! :) Not only should, as Gandalf says, everyone have a hobbit in their care, but they should be in the care of hobbits themselves. :)

Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author Reply: Pippin is cheeky in more ways than one! His frankness is what amused Denethor as well, though in Aragorn, he finds a more friendly regard than the Steward. Aragorn, after all his time in traveling with hobbits, knows better than to put off eating. He will be lectured and hand-fed if word gets to the hobbits that he's skipping meals! lol!

I would so love to be in the care of hobbits. If I could find a Sam, I would grab him and never let him go. ;)

Oh, I love these conversations with Sador and Bergil. And what a wonderful 'shout out' to our dear Samwise.

Author Reply: Aragorn knows how to put someone at ease, even when delivering bad news, and his patience with Bergil is testament, no doubt, to his years of fostering by Elrond. Sador and Sam have something in common, though they do not know it. :)

“You are most generous, My Lord,” Ashtir said with a bow of his head. “I can see now why your men sing your praises so loudly.”

He's so right! Despite the bad news of what might have happened to his relatives Ashtir/Sador must have felt only joy - and astonishment, for the last ruler of Gondor he knew was Denethor, who never would have been that generous!

It seems that Aragorn is now watching out for spies, too. Did Merry ask Bergil after all? Or was it just something that Pippin mentioned to the boy?

Author Reply: Denethor was generous when it suited him and there was always a string attached. Aragorn still has conditions attached to his offers, but his generosity is sincere, and that makes all the difference.

Aragorn knows his hobbits well! Bergil sounds a little too much like them, so he had to ask to be sure, but as Merry already hypothesized, Bergil would never spy on his king. Undoubtedly, this is something Bergil has overheard and worried about himself.

I really enjoyed seeing Bergil talking with Aragorn. I've always liked Bergil. Great chapter.

Author Reply: Bergil is a good kid and it's interesting to see what his interactions with the king might have been like. I'm glad you enjoyed this, GW!

Ah--I love the lessons shared here! And trust Pippin to have arranged things! Bless the Hobbit!

Author Reply: Pippin takes good care of his Big Folk, as do all the hobbits. He knows that Strider will work himself to weariness if allowed, so he was sure to lecture Bergil on the importance of keeping him fed. :D Bergil has a wise king and mentor to learn from. These lessons will serve him well later.
