Distractions  by GamgeeFest 5 Review(s)

Someone could easily reveal the Ring-bearer’s identity, thinking the Haradrim ignorant of the language, before Aragorn even had a chance to broach the topic with Frodo.

Faramir is right here! Aragorn's plan is very risky.

On the other hand, it would not be the first time in this story that Aragorn proved me wrong ;-) He's a clever one!

If Frodo knew how many people were trying to protect him from Merry's pranks... well, I think he would be embarrassed (or angry) because he could have handled the situation (and his cousin) all by himself!

(What a complicated if-clause! I have no idea, if it is correct ;-))

Author Reply: Very risky, but worth that risk. Clever he may be, but even his best-laid plans sometimes go astray. ;)

Frodo will likely find it all quite amusing that they all feel that such measures are necessary. And remember, he does know that Legolas is playing prank-thwarter for him, or attempting to at any rate.

That was a very Pippish if-clause. I approve it! ;)

Good chapter! I like the way in which the different perspectives are intersecting. And liked Merry's remark about Gandalf splitting him in half... hah!

Author Reply: Thank you, cookie! The storylines should start converging soon. I hope. Those hobbits are still not telling me something, I'm almost certain. :P

Merry should be careful what he asks for! :D

Now I'm just waiting for Merry to ask about eunuchs! He's half-Took after all, and not likely to let a mystery like that go! I will love to see the hobbity reaction to *THAT* revelation!

Poor Frodo! That headache sounds dreadful.

And Aragorn is taking a chance in trying to hide Frodo's identity-- all it would take would be one of the translators hearing a remark about "Frodo of the Nine Fingers and the Ring of Doom" from some passing minstrel and the cat will be out of the bag!

Author Reply: Oh, you know it's coming! lol! And he'll save that bombshell for a very important occasion too! ;)

Frodo is going to need his rest, poor dear. *bundles him in blankets*

Aragorn is taking a chance. He knows it can only last for so long, but he feels it is a gamble worth taking.

The Haradrim had been fascinated. Long had their ancestors wondered what caused the Great Eye’s long absence from their lands. They had known nothing of a Ring of Power, nothing about the Battle of the Last Alliance. They had always assumed that the Blue Wizards had something to do with it.

Now that's a wonderful perspective. Of course they would have made deductions based on the only information available to them.

Frodo definitely needs some comfort and cuddles time off to recuperate. *nods*

Author Reply: I imagine it was very confusing for them, to suddenly have their 'god' disappeared with no explanation.

Frodo is going to need some aspirin. Time off is just what the doctor ordered.

Tumors? Trust Pippin to think of THAT possibility! And the thought to protect Frodo's identity is a good one. I'm proud of them all!

Excellent progress here!

Author Reply: Pippin was very accomodating in thinking that up so I could have a chapter title. ;) heh!

Keeping Frodo's identity concealed is a precaution Aragorn would feel is necessary at this point, but it's a risky gamble, as Faramir rightly speculates. It should be interesting to see how long it can remain concealed and who finally let's the cat out of the bag.

Thank you, dear!
