Pumpkin Night  by Primsong 7 Review(s)

Naughty, naughty Gaffer! The things parents do to frighten their kids.

I loved little Marigold's determined litany of 'I not scared o' nothin'!' and young Sam bravely defending his sisters - such courage will stand him in good stead one day.

LOLOLOL! *snicker*giggle*snort* Oh, that was too funny--and just the kind of thing fathers like to pull on their kids! When I think of the whoppers my husband used to tell my son with a straight face...*grin* ("If you unscrew your navel, your legs will fall off." "Chocolate milk comes from brown cows." "All the babies born in 1976 have a liberty bell tattooed on their backside.")

But I really loved how poor little Sam tried so hard to be brave and protect his sisters! I adore your young Sam!

That was absolutely perfect! Gave me chills at the beginning - I did so love Marigold's bravado as she CLUTCHED Sam - and the ending was just delightful. I really loved the moan and the black hunched figure and the eyes! Just perfect!

What a great story for the season. It reminds me of how much fun we used to have trying to scare each other as kids. It's nice to see the Gaffer in such a jovial mood. Marigold was just adorable in this and I loved Sam trying to protect his sisters.

This was a perfect October tale! It had a fun twist; I went from being anxious to chuckling. I loved their "hobbity" talk, and how Sam showed his stout heart at trying to protect his sisters.
Well, so the children learned a small lesson... and their Gaffer got a laugh. I don't blame him for wanting to try that joke!

What a mean trick to pull on the children! Heh! Yes, the ale talking, and the adults tricking little kids! He's lucky Sam didn't get him with the pumpkin!

"The eyes on the critter glow, like candle-fire, 'cept from its head an' not from no lantern."

"Whal, that ain't natural."

*snickers*

Oh, that wily Gaffer! He probably hasn't had this much fun in a long time.
