I love Celebrian's comment about Celeborn and her own education and how it was a highlight of her childhood. Istuion is wonderful, I'm sure, but who can compare with Elrond and Glorfindel for history? I see the potential for much fun and learning in the coming chapters.

Dear Nilmandra,

I'm re-reading this outstanding story for about the fourth time, and I'll follow with HE II, even as I enjoy your most recent installment.

I must say I absolutely love your renditions of Elrond and his family -- his entire household. Your descriptions are the ones to which I compare all other fanfic renditions. The way you fill out the personalities of Celebrian, Glorfindel, Erestor, and a host of others makes them all so much more realistic. And your continued description of each one is so consistent, so believable. Did I tell you I just love your Elves?

I've recommended your stories to many people who complain about not being able to "follow" the Silmarillion. Your "Silmarillion for Elflings" makes the history understandable even to me!

You are an excellent teacher, dear lady, from whom I have learned much by reading your stories.

As I re-read HE I & II, I hope to post more reviews. If I fail, it's because (as was the case in your Legolas stories) I'm too caught up in the interwoven tales to interrupt and review.

Best of blessings on you and your writing,
And thanks for sharing your wonderful talent with us,
Mum

Author Reply: Hello Mum,

I cannot think of anything an author would rather hear than that a reader returns to a story over and over again. Tolkien's world does that for me - its a place I wish to visit and its my hope that these stories fit into his vision at least a little. I fell in love with Elrond, for he embodies so many qualities one would hope for in a great leader - mercy, compassion, wisdom, humility and love. He is in all the tales Tolkien has told, and trying to tell his story is a good way to learn history since he lived through so much of it. Learning through stories is a tried and true method of teaching!

I am honored by your kind words and am glad you this rendition and recommend it to others. Many blessings on you too!

This is a truly delightful story! I've only read one chapter so far and I'm going to move on to the rest, but this is so beautiful and... I don't know- it's like a little gem of light that's brightened up my day. Wow!

Just started this and it looks like I'll be staying late today:D!!! I write lesson plans weekly and have to say I know how the twins' tutor feels! However, it doesn't bother me a bit to throw them out. I love Glorfindel's approach...those "teachable moments" are the best for active, easily bored kids (third graders;), OMG, are the worst!) You are right on with what those twins need to learn their history...(my class acted out the fall of the Roman Empire when we started the Middle Ages and actually remembered it later!)...and involving Elrond is great for all concerned! I do love it when the elves get a little (or a lot) amorous - you do those scenes quite well ;)! Way cool story -will try not to drown you in reviews today! Thank YOU!

Author Reply: Hello Linda, I don't think its possible to drown a fanfiction writer in reviews. Its more like soul food for the muse :D. Glad you like the first few chapters - they are the intro and then we get into the story of Elrond after that. I hope you continue to enjoy it!

Just started reading this...I can't imagine a better instructor than Glorfindel(or, as one person misspelled it, Glorfondle). Ohh, wait, mind out of the gutter... Anyway, I just wanted to say that I like the premise, and will have more comments the further I get.

Author Reply: Thanks, Khazar. Now my Glorfindel (cloned, perfected v1.0) is wandering in and out of my office repeating that.... :)

All comments are appreciated. There are some little glitches I am aware of in the early chapters, where I am working on which name to use of Melkor/Morgoth to be accurate in the 'lesson' yet still make the elves seem realistic; and I just found where I called Balar by the name Sirion once. I am fixing these as I find them. I forewarn you: the elflings (and yes, I use that word occasionally) are adorable at times, but they just kind of moved in and made themselves comfortable, and it seemed impolite to ask them to leave. ~Nilmandra

Nilmandra!

I've only read the first chapter, but I love this! I'm going to make time to read a chapter at a time, but this sounds really enjoyable. I love reading about the Elves of Rivendell about as much as I like writing about the Elves of Rivendell. Your portrayal of Elladan and Elrohir as elflings is delightful. Their boredom is palpable in the schoolroom as is their joy at seeing Glorfindel. In my own stories I find the twins almost write themselves they are so fun!

I've never given a lot of thought to Elrond's young life but your story has really peaked my interest. Thanks for sharing! And thanks for giving us this wonderful site to play in. I really like it!

Author Reply: Thanks, Mirkwoodmaiden. You are right about the twins - they just kind of show up and take over the scene. My little 'Legles' did that a lot too, in my 'Valar' series. I hope you like the story. ~Nilmandra

This is looks good, the opening grabbed my interest right away. Poor Elladan and Elrohir! That history lesson sounds boring to me too, but I'm sure Glorifindel will make teach them interesting things from now on. I'm surprise Elrond and Glorifidel didn't think of that of earlier.

I'll be reading more when I get the chance. Great story, thank you!
