| I like this not-goat friendly place! You know, I nearly forgot just how fond I am of Hrassa. Only *nearly* mind! /Yes, even them dwarves./ Hehe. I enjoyed all this backstory on the wars with Sauron… details sorely lacking in Tolkien’s account. Celeborn on his deathbed! You scared me a second there! And the politics here are delicious too… why, Gil-Galad is almost this sinister character… really, I always imagined all the ruffled feelings to be on Oropher’s side, but this is a fresh look at the matter… plus the idea the animosity extends even toward Celeborn and Galadriel. Oh! So Glorfindel’s supposedly watching Turgon’s heirs. Interesting. Hah! No, I really can’t imagine Hrassa liking the flighty blond. “And if you ever suggest such a thing again, I will punch you black and blue.” – without a doubt my favorite line. :) By the way, Elrond’s proposal had me scared once again. Mrs Celebrain Gil-Galad! Too weird a thought... I always love your romances – elegant, cute, surprising, witty… Celebrain had been luring him in the whole time! And Hrassa’s interspersed self-commentary was too funny. Finally! He’s officially Celebriain’s lapdog. ^_^ Author Reply: Hey there, Kitt Otter! Please forgive the late reply, but I was motoring to the Mid-West for my niece's wedding. And some vacationing as well. :) Thanks for appreciating the elevated setting! Despite nearly, Hrassa is blushing anyway. ;) *g* For me, details are whats fun about fanfiction. The amateur engineering of the Professor's wonderful designs. Yep, Celeborn nearly expired (in my universe) as a reasonable reason for the couple's essential retirement to Dol Amroth until their subsequent necessary return to Lothlorien ere it disintigrated. Let's face it: Gil-galad never had it easy. I really think of him as one tough guy, constrained rather than enabled by his crown. The power of which was reduced through being passed down again and again in a relatively short period of time and finally to a youth - each time losing a little more command with the Exile nobles. If one resents being obliged for obedience from other apparantly not earned by one's own merits, it can be irritating. Watching over his prince's family was my reason for Glorfindel to want to return to Middle-earth and carry-on fighting. In a way, Hrassa and he are both in the same profession, so Hrassa does have grounds to critisize him. But, also to like Glorfindel as a fellow agent of his own House. (which will merge someday, at that) The lady can take care of herself. ;) At least until her children became her focus, and then all her care will be for them. Well I suppose, those that see Gil-galad as Fingon's son are not so weirded by the thought. Then, the kinship would be the same as Galadriel and Celeborn's. Then again, she just belongs with Elrond, doesn't she. Thank you so much for saying that! I really think Elrond knew what was going on, but was torn because of his friendship with the King. Plus, his personal wish to stay in Imladris. And his sudden realization about the nature of his love for Celebrian. Hrassa is part and protector of his family, just like Glorfindel. This was an unexpected treat! -) Hehehe, I don't remember said comment but it must have irked you to no end, to celebrate my birthday with a whole chapter of bashing my favourite elf king in revenge! So I now hastily apologize for whatever thoughtless comment I may have made, LOLOL!! ... poor guy, really. Anyway, I enjoyed Hrassa's pov here as always, how he's got Elrond measured up, how he enjoys his discomfort at heights, and then how he worries like a good-old chaperon when they're getting so close to each other amidst their heated discussion... :-) Poor Hrassa. Things really have a way of going exactly where he wouldn't like them, and I suspect that given free rein, he would surely get things ordered in middle-earth.. and Celeborn back on his feet in no time, to shake some common sense into the princess, LOLOL! She did manage to startle him as always! :-) “Continue to be Erienion’s unfailing ally and friend, if you wish. That would be your right as a Lord. But, as said before, it should be on no one’s terms but your own. ” While she really acted like Elrovail before, she now shows how young and far from her mother's political skill she still is. First because friendships and alliances can't be established on one side's terms, alone, so to keep in good terms with Ereinion Elrond will have to reach common grounds, not on his terms alone, and second she is imposing her own terms to Elrond, in telling him he has to go on his own alone... so the little lady's still learning her game and it shows, not that Hrassa will disagree with her bold stance here! :-) All in all, I consider myself delightfully chastised. It was great to see another tale from you. Thank you very much indeed! I've been missing these stories! :-) Author Reply: Yes, I should think this was very unexpected considering how little I have posted lately. :/ But goodness, I was not chastising you for some comment per se! Your memory is not that gone away! I apologize for giving you that impression. I thought you might think that I forgot your birthday. That's all. ...still... I like how that miscommunication worked out. ];} I am always glad when you enjoy Hrassa being an involved observer. Henchmen come in shapes and sizes, I think. But for me, he is of a special kind. As an experienced negotiator, you know more about political horse-trading than the average person. Celebrian's tactics in this particular situation are what the are: directional. And personally, I don't think she should aspire to her mother's political skills. They seem to me to be much about self-aggrandizing. As to Gil-galad's negotiating skills, he did not seem able appease and retain a whole segment of the his Umaryar subjects. Besides that - *stopping before I get started* Certainly, Celebrian and Elrond, having buddied up, stand to learn a lot together about swimming in global political waters. Again, I apologize for making you think this part of a old debate. I was just rifting on an old idea of mine for your entertainment.
