Eight Elven Cloaks  by Virtuella 11 Review(s)
Baggins BabeReviewed Chapter: 1 on 9/3/2008
"May his spirit be fed by the memories of goodness and beauty, no matter how dark the shadow or how deep the despair. May hope grow in his heart like a mellorn tree, with strong roots and flowers untouched by winter.”

That is our Sam! What a beautiful wish for him - and I hope some of it rubs off on Frodo too.

That so describes Sam. I also like that you chose to write about his cloak first as he often gets left for last. Lovely.

Dear Sam! He needed all of his hope and strength by the end of things--and I do not mean only the Quest. I think this is such a marvelous and likely concept.

We know how much care and prayer the Elven maidens put into the lembas. I cannot imagine they would put any less care into such a garment.

Ah--such a gift and prayer for our beloved Samwise! Yes, indeed the blessing he needs! And when Frodo is reduced to wearing it, that blessing shall be shared with him at a time when he desperately needs such help.

Excellent!

The language here is truly beautiful! I'm loving this story.

Author Reply: Thanks. I hope I won't let you down when it comes to writing about Aragorn's cloak...

...May his strength not leave him...Perhaps the blessing of this cloak was that he would recognize the gift he already bore in his heart. Again, most lovely!

“And yet he must go on such a quest ... “ whispered Faenchiriel.

There is great strength in Samwise Gamgee, as well as his gentleness and humility. He is my husband's favorite character in the story.

Beautiful!!

Author Reply: Funny you should say that, he's my Dad's favourite character, too. Thanks for your comments!

I reckon this is a brilliant idea for a story. It brings a glimpse of what is going on behind the main stories, and what roles little things play in those events. The description of Sam seems spot on and very much reminds us of why Sam was vital to the final quest. I look forward to the rest.

This is really lovely, Virtuella; a great concept! We rarely see any of the behind-the-scenes people in Lorien; and I so like this characterisation of Galadriel's handmaidens - ladies of power and wisdom themselves. And the language is wonderful.

One tiny error that looks like a typo - One for an elf, one for a dwarf, two for men with the statue of great warriors. Shouldn't it be stature, not statue?

I'm looking forward to the rest.

Author Reply: Thank you! 'twas not a typo, but my insufficient English...

How lovely! Very true that Sam was more than nurturer of plants and flowers, for he had nurtured his beloved master's heart just as much. I love the blessing. His soul never did shrivel even if Frodo's suffered so who abandoned hope, but indeed Hope never abandoned him. I look forward to more of these blessings.

Namarie, God bless, Antane :)
