This was so awesome! I loved every bit of it! Celeborn and Galadriel are my favorites and their story is so heartbreakingly beautiful and you have done such a remarkable job here! I have completely and utterly fallen in love with your style, it is so amazing. You write them so perfect!

I loved how you started this with the clear victory, that was actually surrender. Love and death are like that. But, what struck me most about this piece was the 'voice' you chose for Celeborn. This was more difficult than first-person, yet you carry it off beautifully. His pov is subjective and objective, intimate and external, all at the same time. Only a talented writer like you could have accomplished this feat. Very complementary to "I am Two Fools". But, that story was sheer joy compared to this...

It hurt to see Celeborn yearning for the past Galadriel, who she was when they met; strong and brilliant all on her own. If she could just be the person she was before Nenya, she would stay with him, as she did after the War of Wrath. I found her weariness very reminiscent of their daughter’s loss of joy and wished you had included a reference to Celebrian along with her brother. Not that you didn't have this ratcheted up pretty high as it was.

Gosh, you give angst a good name. Here's hoping you have some more to share!

Hmm. I have my doubts on that. It says somewhere (LOTR Appendices, I think) that the Sea was forever in the minds of the Elves that came from Valinor. In fact, Nenya probably stemmed the tide from cresting too soon - it worsened and soothed her fading. But too little is said of the Rings, and we can only guess.

wished you had included a reference to Celebrian along with her brother.
Maybe. Amroth's mention just showed up. I find it one of the most tragic parts of Celeborn and Galadriel's story - that their children were both taken away in this manner - neither dead, nor with them.

I wrote a mammoth reply to your email. Did you get it? I do apologize for the length! :)

Beautiful, also in form. The ten pieces gave this a sense of prolonged agony, such as their parting. She wavers between pride and need to be comforted while he feels alternatively angry and sorrowful so their moods seldom meet except in their suffering. A lovely piece.

I've always felt that there was so much to write about, for these two. Specially considering the downturn their lives take when she rejects the Ring and the path West lies open to her. Or death, if Sauron regained the Ring. Tolkien is very vague about 'sea-longing', but if it is powerful enough to cause someone to fade away entirely, it isnt just normal homesickness. It is the fate of the elves, I think - EVERYTHING is prolonged.

Thank you. :D !

Grievous and heartening at the same time. Two lovers destined to be parted--for a time, at least. But there will be healing again--at the time set.

Wonderful look at the love between two such powerful individuals.

Author Reply: And I'm firmly of the opinion that he eventually went to Valinor. Maybe not exactly when she wanted or needed him to be there, but he did go. :)
