Elf-root  by Soledad 5 Review(s)

What a lovely peek behind the scenes! The hobbits seem so very much like I imagine them, and I'm sure the Master himself would have written approved of their behaviour.

However, I can't wait to learn more about that Elf-Root ...

Author Reply: Thank you, Lissa. :)
I'm proud that the Hobbits look believable to you.

As for learning more, the Elf-root won't appear just yet, but the next chapter is up - have fun!

Your title 'Elf-root' caught my attention right away. As for being 'Hobbity'...well, with your wonderful Beta and your tale-telling talent...just don't fret. You are 'getting the Hobbits right'. I am awaiting the next chapter with anticipation.

Author Reply: Don't worry, there's nothing indecent in that name... although some old-fashioned Hobbits might be suspicious at first. *g*

*APPLAUSE!*

This is wonderful! I know you seldom write about hobbits--but you have done a marvelous and meticulous job with this, getting down the genealogy and the hobbity primness and propriety with exactly the right note!

And I love what you are doing with this--I've personally always thought that Bilbo's Uncle Longo was behind the efforts to get Bag End, because Otho was not yet of age!

I can't wait to see what comes next! This is the kind of fic I search for often, and seldom find!

Author Reply: Thanks.:)
Actually, I've never written about hobbits before, and the family trees dorwnright frightened me. The harderst part was to get the hobbitspeak right, and in that, Larner's help was invaluable.

Oh, very hobbity! The rules, the do's, the dont's, and the women's chatter was all fun to read. I like seeing what led up to the sale at Bag End (one of my favorite parts in The Hobbit). I'd like to tell Bilbo to hurry home... before Lobelia and Otho sell everything. (eek)

Author Reply: I'm glad you find that I got the hobbits right. The female OCs (and later the male ones) are all based on people I used to know in real life - yeah, I've met my share of queer people - so it's great fun to write them. But making them suitable hobbity, that's the hard part.
